The 2 things to help start at first try are the coolant sensor and the cold start valve. If the coolant sensor is bad , it give an erratic resistance so the cold start valve could not open to assist the start. If the cold start is not open then you have not had the assist from the cold start valve. Good luck.
vent valve or vapor canister purge valve is what I believe your referring too. You dont need to replace the complete vapor canister, just the valve itself. the valve is connected to the canister with a small 2" long rubber hose.
