I put an aftermarket stereo in my 1998 Toyota Avalon. When the car is off (key is out of ignition) the radio turns on ,but no sound. When the car is on, the radio turns off and no sound. I checked fuses and the fuse (15 A) under the hood corresponding to Radio 1 was blown and I replaced it. The aftermarket stereo ,I put in, is made by Sony. I checked if the car has an anti-theft stereo system and this car (according to Toyota) doesn't have one. I think I am missing something...? What do I do?

SOURCE: 2003 toyota corolla power problem

Hi there!

If you have checked all the fuses under the dash, Make sure you look at those closest the battery near the engine.

If these test fine, There is probably a cable fault.

If you have a meter, take out the 15A fuse for the lighter, and use a probe between the contacts and ground (steelwork/ Negative)

You should get 12V or thereabouts. If you don't - check engine bay area fuses in the same manner one by one, then replace after testing.

Pull the fuses relating to the radio in the same manner, one by one.

You should be able to identify the fault this way if you are methodical about it.

Hope this resolvesthe problem for you. If it does, Please take a moment to rate as Fixya!

Thanks.

SOURCE: 1994 cadillace anti theft system

I just had this same problem with a '96 . do you have a vats key in your '94? you need to bypass the VATS system. read some of the blogs on this site and it will tell you how to do it. I fixed mine with a $2 resistor from radio shack.

SOURCE: 2006 Toyota Matrix 2nd fuse panel location?

The second fuse panel that you seek is under the dashboard, on the driver side (for a US car). This box is called the "JB1" (junction block #1), and contains several relays in addition to the 15 amp "CIG" fuse that you need to replace.
Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa!

SOURCE: My radio in my 05' Honda pilot stopped working.

In my case the solution was a fuse on the passenger side inside fuse box. It is not listed as a fuse for the radio but it is none the less. If your cigarette lighter isn't working either its the fuse. On my 2004 it was fuse # 9 a 15A fuse.

SOURCE: 2003 Toyota Echo radio/clock not working.

Disconnect your negative battery cable for about 10min. After you re-connect, the stereo should reset itself and start functioning. Best of luck!

Ignition wont turn

If you turn the key and you hear nothing, chances are it maybe your ignition switch, or cylinder (the part you put the key into). On the other hand if you turn the key and you hear a clicking sound, then you are looking at your battery or your starter. I recommend having your battery and starter properly tested before making a diagnosis. I hope this helps and don't forget to rate me!

1998 toyota Avalon, the car alarm is going off when opening the drivers door manually with the key (remote is broke) and then the car will not start.

Same here... I have a 1998 Toyota Avalon XL. My car battery died. Replaced my car battery, but found out that when you unplug and plug the car battery with this car it engages in security mode (I have factory car alarm). This disables the engine and wont let you turn the ignition aka start the car engine until the remote (keyless entry) "UNLOCK" is applied. My remote is also lost so I cannot disable the alarm.
The only thing I can think of to do is unplug the battery again to disable everything (car alarms are annoying...) and call the dealer to pick the car up and perform the diagnosis. Most likely they will offer you another keyless (ugh... expensive) and/or you could ask to disable the factory car alarm.
I know thats not much help but it seems to be the only option from what I researched currently....

I want to upgrade my stereo in my 1997 toyota avalon but don't know if I can bypass the security -it says that the radio will not work if it is removed. Does it mean the factory radio or any stereo I put...

Hi.
The 'factory' radio has the security feature built into it.

You can add any type of aftermarket radio with no problems.
