You can try using self tapping screws , but predrill the holes to sve stripping. after a time this will loosen up usually a year. this is when you have to get creative. i have a novel solution which is only for the stout hearted. considering the year of the jeep in question you go for it the first time through save time.

You will need to purchase the Hardware kit also. The softtop does not come with it. It runs around $150. That is if you dont have one already. With this installed the softtop will be easy to put on
The door surrounds are for the factory/after market soft top. The top had rails that slide into the surrounds to hold the top taught. With out them you can install the top but it will be loose and have large gaps around the doors. If you dont have them you can get them cheap on ebay. Good luck
align marks properly on the top pulley gear,,and all the lower pulley gears,re-install chain ,then bring the cam shaft around to TDC then check that the distributor is actually pointing to number one cylinder.
Best thing to do is make sure nothing is bend or broken in the skeleton. Start from front sleeve above windshield. Secure the snaps on the roll bars. Then work to the back.
