How do you replace the trasaxle fluid filter ?

Not all transmission have a replaceable filter. If it does then you have to drain the fluid (usually there is no drain plug so you have to partially lower the pan) once the fluid is out you remove the pan. Filters are either press fit or have 1 or 2 bolts holding them in. Replace filter, put new gasket on pan if necessary (make sure to completely remove old gasket) refill Trans with the correct fluid. And check fluid level following manufacturers recommended procedure.

B - Replace engine oil and oil filter.
1 - Rotate tires, and check tire pressure and condition
3 - Replace transmission fluid and transfer fluid (if equipped).

Here is a description of what each individual Maintenance code means for your vehicle. (Please remember that more than one code may be displayed at a time)
A - Replace just engine oil and Filter
B - Replace engine oil and oil filter. Also inspect Brake system and components and perform a tire rotation.
1 - Rotate tires, and check tire pressure and condition
2 - Replace air cleaner element, check drive belt, and replace dust and pollen filter.
3 - Replace transmission fluid and transfer fluid (if equipped).
4 - Replace spark plugs, replace timing belt (if equipped), inspect water pump, and inspect/ adjust valve clearance.
5 - Replace engine coolant
6 - Replace rear differential fluid (if equipped).

If you have over 100,000 on it, I would get it rebuilt.

Note: operate A/C at least once per week, to maintain lubrication.

Underhood & Undervehicle

Every 3,000 miles - Replace engine oil & oil filter. Clean battery terminals. Adjust drive belt. Check power steering fluid. Check steering & CV BOOTS for wear and replace if necessary. Lubricate front end suspension.

Every 6,000 miles - Check transmission fluid condition and level. Check brake pads and caliper components - replace if necessary. Lubricate driveshaft U-joints. Rotate tires. Lubricate wiper arm linkage and pivots.

Every 12,000 miles - Adjust engine valve clearance. Replace distributor cap & rotor. Drain and replace engine Coolant. Replace Air Filter element. Replace Fuel Filter. Replace wiper blades.

Every 24,000 miles - Replace Drive Belt. Replace A/C Compressor Drive Belt. ** Change auto transmission fluid & trans filter (this is critical and must be adhered to) - preferrably do a trans flush at same time. Replace drive AXLE fluid.

Every 36,000 miles - Replace HT leads.

Every 2 years - Replace brake fluid (also clutch fluid if applicable). Replace power steering fluid.


** If you intend to keep this vehicle long term, then consider changing the trans fluid & filter every 20,000 miles. This is the secret to automatic transmission longevity.

there is no dip stick because now you have to take it into the dealer so there can hook up a computer, just other way for making more money.

Believe it or not...I have seen these kinds of things happen because of the Coolant temp sensor. It tells the PCM that the engine is cold so it strengthens the fuel delivery and mixture...Its an easy and cheep fix...9 or ten dollars for the sensor and a little for the antifreez. Make sure the engine is cool before trying this. The sensor on a1.9l is located on the right side of the head just above the trasaxle bell housing...it should have a two wire connector...be careful no to over tighten, the sensor is BRASS and the head is ALUMINUM!!
