2003 X5, Key fobs stopped working approximately 5 months ago. Had to lock and unlock the doors with the actual key. However today the key would not work in the door lock. My husband got out of the car on the driver's side of the car and shut the door, I was about to get out as well when the doors immediately locked and activated the alarm. Thank goodness I was still in the car. None of the doors could be unlocked from the outside or with the central locking system button. When I pushed the central locking system button the alarm was activated, thank goodness my keys were with me inside the car, I just put it in the ignition and turned it off but I was still unable to unlock the car with the central locking system. I manually reached over and unlocked the Driver's door and my door and was able to drive the car home. We left the car in the garage with the windows down intending to drive the car to my mechanic on Monday (today is Sat.). I opened the driver's door to get my cell phone battery charger out of the cigarette lighter, as soon as I shut the door the car doors locked, automatically rolled up the windows and activated the alarm all while I stood there and watched unable to do anything. Now we can not unlock the car AT ALL!! The key doesn't work, we are afraid to mess with it in case the alarm goes off in our garage with no way to deactivate it. Of course this happened after the car dealers and mechanics closed for the day, AAARGH! Does anyone have any idea what to do. It appears that we will have to wait until Monday and have it towed but how will the mechanic get inside the car? How can I have it towed if we can't even get inside the car, which is in my garage?

Key doesn't go into door lock

open the other door to get in.
spray some WD-40 to loosen lock.
if key won't go in there might be something jammed in lock.
I might try a tiny drill to see what is in there.
drill size of .0040 or smaller.

Is have recently replaced my battery in my circle fey fon for an mgtf 2003 how do I connect this so the alarm discounts and I can actually get in my car

If your key fob has just stopped working try this:

  1. Unlock your vehicle with the key in the drivers door lock, do not open the door.
  2. Press the right hand button lock button (the button with the padlock symbol or the dimpled button) on the key fob 4 to 8 times.

If the above fails try this:

  1. Open the key fob
  2. Remove the battery
  3. Press any button 10 ten times, and the same with the other button
  4. Refit the battery or a new battery
  5. Unlock the vehicle with the key in the drivers door lock, do not open the door
  6. Press the right hand button lock button (the button with the padlock symbol or the dimpled button) on the key fob 4 to 8 times

Hi I have an Audi A6 which has had an intermittant problem for several months. It will be fine for a couple of months then this fault will come back. It tries to lock the doors and unlock them whilst...

Depending on the year, anything over about 1998 has whats called a 'central convenience module' that controls the windows, locks, sunroof, alarm, etc. It sounds like the one in your car is faulty. Its possible that the bad alternator caused some sort of power spike that has semi-fried the module, but not completely. They can be had used for < $100 generally.

2003 audi a4 had dead battery, charged battery and now the key fob won't work and the security lights flash for about 5 min everytime I do anything to the car. why ?

Synchronization
When
Key buttons operated repeatedly while vehicle out of range and system becomes inoperative. Key batteries replaced.
How - early models
Depress lock or unlock button. Manually lock and unlock driver's door within 30 seconds. System should operate normally after approximately 1 minute. If not, carry out programming procedure.
How - late models
If vehicle locked, manually unlock driver's door using key. Press key unlock button once. Switch ignition ON and OFF. Remove key from ignition switch. Press key lock or unlock button once. System should now operate correctly.

Program a remote key for 03 A6

I have an A4 and did this to re-program my key:

1. used the key to start the car...then turned it off
2. put the key in the driver door (door closed)
3. pressed the lock button on the key fob once
4. turned the key to lock the door.

This is basically the steps in the owners manual, but the car must be started with the key first, and the key must be in the door lock before pressing the lock button.
