2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Logo

I have a 2001 dodge grand caravan sport with a cronic front end noise! I recently replaced the front sway bar links due to noise while traveling over bumps, the noise went away for a while now it is back.I assumed it was a faulty link,so i disconnected from sway bar to find that they were tight. So i continued searching thinking that it might be a warn inner or outer tie rod or faulty strut bearing plates on struts,so i removed them and found out that they were also ok. Upon further diagnoses found to be the rack-n-pinion steering unit that was making noise it appears to be a warn guide bushing ,but it is not leaking fluid!! IS there any way to repair without complete unit replacement???

I replaced both sway bar links as well as the bushings this past summer and things are still quiet. I had the same clunking noise as well when going over bumps (Drives you crazy!). Did you try changing the bushings as well? They are $16 for a set of Moog bushing at O'Reilly's. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MOO0/K7406.oap?year=2001&make=Dodge&model=Grand%2BCaravan&vi=1400027&pt=02972&ppt=C0106

SOURCE: How to replace Inner Tie rod on 1994 Chrysler Town & Country?

222,000 miles? that's a good vechile so far! anyways, do some price checking. new rack and pinions come with the inner tie rods. so if it's like 50 more for the whole assembly, i would but if not, it's up to you. i've changed some rack and pinions on vechiles that were under 150000 due to major leaking. and if you put just new rods in, if it dose start leaking later, you'll get new inner rods again with new system you'll just be paying labor and alingment charges again. so again, my OPINION is if I'm going to keep it for a while and if it's COST effective, just to do the whole unit.

Noise from my 2001 dodge grand caravan. Sounds like a suspension noise

90% of front suspension noise on caravans is sway bar bushings and sway bar links.Next is upper strut bearings.

I have a 2002 dodge caravan and when you turn it makes this clunking noise what can be the problem. It only makes this noise when u turn

The most common sources of noise would be sway bar end links and/or bushings, drive shaft CV joints [which often make a ratcheting noise], ball joints, or tie rod ends. Rarer would be wheel bearings/hubs but they often will make noise in straight line driving also. Either way I would be sure to have it checked out as soon as possible as it could be a big safety issue should something fail while you are driving it. I actually own one of these and have replaced both sway bar links and bushings on mine due to the klunking noise they would make at slower/in town speeds on bumps and turns.

What tools are needed to replace the front sway bar links on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan? It's FWD. The parts are called sway bar repair kits.

I just changed mine this weekend. You need an 18mm deep socket for the top of the link as well as a T40 Torx socket. You will need a 18mm regular socket for the bottom of the link.

How do i find a diagram showing my front end sway bar bushings?

The sway bar bushings are under the large clamps that hold the bar to the frame. The ends of the sway bar are connected to the struts by the sway bar links. When the links wear out, they clunk--not squeak. The bushings are under the retainer in the pic below.

Rattle/clunk front end of a 2001 grand caravan

Front stabilizer/sway bar bushings sound worn. I had same, on my 91'. Felt like someone was thumping the floor under my feet sometimes. I managed to get away with spinning the outer ones at control arms, but replaced ones in middle at frame.

2003 Dodge Caravan Front end clunk.

Had similar problem with 2003 Dodge GC. Replaced the parts you mention + rack & pinion, then to fix the now noticable whining noise, replaced power steering pump and pulley. Fortunately was under an extended warrentee at 46k miles.
