I have a 1997 Town and Country minivan and it would not start nor would the odometer lights in the dash come on .It would start and immediately die. took it finally to the dealership and they said it was the BCM fixed that for $899.20 it worked for one day then back to normal as soon as I got it running again by jumping it which sometimes worked not always i took it back too the dealership and of course the whole time they had it it started right up everytime. finally it didn't and they checked it again they then said it was the cluster which they purchased a used one for $250.00 plus labor this time it cost me $503.74. And I have had not one problem with it it starts every time and drive great. So my advice is to take it to the dealership and ask them to check your BCM and your Cluster. Good Luck I am now happy with my Town and Country again. I
I had the same problem with my 1998 Chrysler T&C----The engine would turn over, but not start. Pushing in the key hard into the ignition and holding while turning started the van every time. My friend changed the ignition switch. Solved the problem right away!! Hope this helps.
I have had a similar problem and found that the wiring harness under the dash comes loose. There are two plugs down on the left side of the dash next to the floor board. The plugs are about 2" by 3". Check those to see if that is the problem

Every now and than my 98 town and country will not start. there is power everywhere, but nothing when I turn the key. some times it will last for days, but I can go to start it and it starts like nothing ever happened. Is there a kill switch. I bought it from a chrysler dealer used. They have not found the problem, because the car is running when I take it to them.
Same issue
I have a 1998 Chrysler Town and Country and for the last year or so, you could drive the van and all will be great. You park it, go in a store, come out and the van won't start. If you let the van sit a while, it will start up no problem. Have taken it in to get checked out and no one seems to know what the problem is. I am seeing online that there are numerous amount of people that have this same problem with no clue how to resolve. Sounds as if it should be on a recall.
Has anyone ever figured out what is causing this?
I have a 1998 Town & Country and ocasionally it does not start. The alarm activates and there is no way I can deactivate it. It will deactivate on its own at any time. We have taken the van to the mechanic and he has not been able to fix it.
I have 2000 Town and Country that at times will not crank. Has power, lights, radio, and you can not jump it off. I have replaced the battery and wires. Put in a new starter. You can hear the relay switch (fuse box) click when you turn the key.Ever so often it still does it. Sometimes you can back a few hours later and it will crank. Then it may not do it for several weeks.
I have a 1998 Chrysler T/C and have the same problem; As we speak my vehicle is sitting at my mother's house because it would not start two Friday nights ago when I was attempting to leave. This has happened more than once and a mechanic re-attached a wire in the dashboard last year. For a time the problem went away but I have no horn since they re-attached the wire. Has anyone thought of a class action complaint so that Chrysler will diligently look at this problem? I just spent 1$1747. on this vehicle that is 10 years old. I cannot afford to keep putting money into it and pay $60.00 per tank for gas twice a month, minimum. This must be a defect that should be recalled inmass. Any solutions?
I have the very same issue. Today I jumped in the van to go get something to eat and it started and stalled, started and stalled, started and stalled and then would not turn over and start again. I am at a loss, this vehicle has been a good running van with the exception of the dash not working intermittently, this is the second time that it stalled when I started it but the last time I managed to keep it running and just got some fuel additive thinking that would do the trick. It is obviously electrical, I have battery power, lights, radio but it will not turn over and run. Frustrating...Help!!
Our 1999 Town and Country experiences the same thing. After the third try it will shut down completely and will not even turn over. It has left us stranded several times for an hour or more but when checked for codes at a garage nothing can be found
When you turn the ignition to the on point (just before the turnover point) the gauges do not move nor does the gearshift indicator come on. This is an indication it is going to do this. By "popping" it on the left side of the dash it will cause the gauges to register, the indicatior light will come on, and it will start right up with no problems whatsoever. So we have developed a habit of checking these indicators before we turn it on completely. By various internet searches I think it may be the instrument cluster but have not been able to get this replaced yet to verify it is the problem
i have 1998 chyrsler town&country lxi will not start i have power everywhere except it will not start
So I'm not alone! EXACT same problems here.Every 7-10 days the #$!#@$# thing will not start. I let it sit anywhere from 4-24 hours and then it does. Spent $175 towing it down to the dealer - it started for them of course. Couldn't diagnose it then. Left it there for a month, and they said they went out and started it every day with no problems. 3 days after i picked it up, it happened again! Just removed the IOD fuse. When I turn the van on, no security light comes on. I'm convinced the problem is with the security system, which Chrysler says cannot be disabled. Hope this works.
I have the same problem with my 1998 Town & Country mini van. I turn the key to start the van, nothing happens, no sound. My headlights and dashboard lights do come on. I first started having trouble nearly a year ago. I couldn't turn the key. I googled my problem and found that using a small hammer to tap the key helped. Then that problem disappeared after a few months. Now, it just won't start....sometimes, other times, it starts right up. What I found helps, is I push the key in towards the key hole and then turn. I don't know why this would work. Any ideas?
I have the same problem. 1998 T&C. Love it and hate it. About every 3 weeks, won't start. 2 computers, new starter, new ignition switch. Chrysler should do something about this. Odometer (digital0 won't come on when key is turned to "on" position. When that happens, no need to try and start; won't happen. Let it sit for undetermined period of time and it starts. Very frustating !!!!
