It happens to me if I let the fuel go under 1/4 tank. it can also set off the check engine light and then you have to drive about 50 miles for it to reset. If the fuel tank is low the emmissions build up in there and set of the click on the filling handle. As long as I keep the fuel over 1/4 of a tank it doesn;t happen..

I have a 2001 montol Carlos, and i cant put gas in the gas tank..it takes me 20 min to put gas in car.

Probably has blocked vent line. Look under car at fill hose and you should see a smaller second hose = vent line. Disconnect and check for clogged.

Siphoning gas

The fuel tanks have protective baffles in the fill stem and they block hoses from entering the tank.
There is an easy way to remove fuel. Two things you will need to do are Look up the fuel pump RELAY wiring in the Powerbox under the hood and buy a tire valve removal cap. Some tire stem caps made of metal have removal tools incorporated in the stem cap, inexpensive, Walmart or Kmart.
Why do you need a tire valve stem cap? To remove the stem valve in the fuel rail test port on the engine. Once this is removed you have an opening for fuel to come out. Remove the valve and slide a rubber hose over the stem and clamp it down. Around a 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch internal diameter hose, long enough to reach an empty gas can. Now you are ready to pump.
To pump, remove your fuel pump Relay. Look at your obtained diagrams of the Fuel pump relay Layout. Jump the 2 terminals. Maybe 27 and 34, Look for Yourself as Layouts differ. The fuel pump will pump when jumped.
I removed 17 gallons in about 15 Minutes with a blocked pump. Do this on a COLD engine. Outside, well ventilated. It works.
Suggest topics like-"Fuelpump Relay Bypass", "2000 Lincoln Town car Powerbox Layout". Or See Autozone Help section on Web after registering your car.
Tire stem caps will cost about $3 for 4 pack, fuel hose about $7 for enough. small clamp $?.

I own a F350 2001 4x4 V10 I an having issue with the fuel pumps i have replased it twice and am about to do it again what could causes this so many times and how do you replace the fuel pump

The cause of the fuel pump going out all the time its where its made China, Mexico ect... junk parts. It took me 3 to 4 times before I found one Made in the USA and this was in a years time frame. I haven't had the problem since. The fuel pump is in the gas tank. If you take it in somewhere it will cost you about $700 and up. Or you can do it yourslf.

1. Get a jack and a block of wood
2. Unbolt the skid plate and jack up to tank
3. Unbotl gas tank straps and filler neck that goes to the gas tank
4. Lower tank slowly and remove gas lines
5. Undo retainer ring on tank that holds the gas pump in
6. Empty gas tank it will make it easier to left up
7. Replace fuel pump and reinstall

1988 nissan pickup gas splashes back on filling even if iuse a small gas can. cant get gas into the tank. is there some kind of valve or filter??

There is no valve. However if it has just started someone may have tried stealing gas out of your car and left something in the tank, if you pull the hose off the filler tube you can look to see if the vent hole is blocked or the flapper valve is damaged and not aloowing fuel to flow into the tank. Also look at the filler tube hose and make sure it has not been crimped.

Can't get gas to go in tank, and it will spit out gas

there is a breather pipe running long the filler pipe, if u look at the furl cap there should be a small hole that lets out air as u fill up, i think that this is blocked .
