I have a 2003 Saturn VUE. My car overheated, but without steam. After a few minutes, it started again, but I decided to have it towed to the dealership. They told me that my oil had leaked into my coolant system, but it has been 2 days and they have not told me why or what is wrong with the car or how much money this could run me. Does anyone have any ideas?
Pull your spark plugs and see if coolant is inside the cylinder. If so you have a blown head gasket. also you can start the car (make sure its cold) and then pop the cap off of the radiator if it shots like a fountain then you have a blown head gasket (watch out though, does this due to a blow off of pressure into the coolant system). you might also think about replacing the water pump if you have a blown head gasket. Since you have it open it's not a bad idea, it could be the reason why the gasket is blown if that's the case.
OK this can be 2 things. Either a blown head gasket which can produce oil in your coolant and over heats the engine. The 2nd is less likely and that is that your radiator and oilcooler both are leaking.
My guess is the head gasket. Good luck this will cost you quite a bit.

One other thing - If the dealer finds something in the replacement engine that indicates it was substandard or NOT a rebuilt/new engine (i.e.: a used engine out of a wrecked car) you could also have legal recourse against the shop that replaced the engine.

The radiator cools both the oil and the coolant and the oil is leaking from inside the radiator into the coolant, The radiator will need to be replaced. Call up the dealer and find out what is happening. This could be several hundred dollars depending on the dealer.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. 2003 Saturn Vue quickly overheated, coolant (and oil) ran out of it. There is no splattering of coolant visible when you look down on the engine. Service Tech felt underneath and got a little bit on a piece of paper, but there was very little in the coolant bottle. Coolant had the consistency of a milkshake. Had car towed to dealership where I was told that possibly it would cost $4,000 to $5,000 to repair if they had to replace all the parts the coolant runs through. Car has about 56,000 miles on it. Could this be a factory defect?
