Heater doesn't work. it's like the thermostate will not go from cold to hot. Stuck on cold!!!

  • Anonymous Nov 05, 2010

Your thermostat should open at 195 degrees (f) If it does not, replace it. However it can also get stuck open. In that case the engine won't reach operating temperature. If you remove the thermostat from a cold engine it should be closed. If not, replace it. Otherwise, if everything there is good, the problem is in either the heater control valve (if you have on it's on the heater hoses just before they enter the firewall), or under the dashboard, problem either with control or a blend door/motor.

The blend door under the dash is intermittently not working and/or stuck in a closed or open position. You will have to get under the dash and check the blend door for sticking or a defective actuator.

I know my eyesight isn't what it used to be but I don't think anyone can see your vehicle and do the necessary checking and testing needed to correctly diagnose the problem on line.
I recommend that everything be checked over. In a shop environment, I'd recommend that my techs look at it, therefore not making a random guess. In your situation, you need to do the looking or have a shop look, then you do the work....your option.

Heater not working

Possible heater tap valve problem, wrong vacume line connected to it or heater hoses not fitted in correct position on engine causing lock when thermostate opens.

Heater doesn't work

Make sure the coolant level is full in the reservoir.

If the coolant level is good feel the hoses that go to the heater core back by the firewall. If one is cold and one is hot that the heater core is plugged. I have had fairly good success back flushing the heater cores and getting them to work. If back flushing does not work than the heater core will need to be replaced. The entire dash will need to be removed to do this.

If both the hoses are hot than it may be the blend door actuator. You should hear a distinct difference in the air flow from the vents by moving the heat control from full hot to full cold.

The last thing is the t-stat could be stuck open. If this where the case than the temp gauge will also be reading low.

Check those out and let me know what you find.

No heat when stopped for traffic

1-your thermostate is stuck open half way. thermostate is a simple device that made of enlarging metals when heat is applied. it suposed to be in close position to allow engine heat up, when specified temp reached it opens and let it flow and radiator tries to keep coolant cool.when it is broken it stucks or it acts slow or it wont acts at all. in your situation it is stuck open half way. it allows enough water to be heated but flow is limited to heat cabin heater.

2-if there are cabin heater selenoid/selenoids for two different temperature for cabin left and right, on some instance those selenoid valves to adjust cabin heater stuck open or closed like thermostate acts on first case. so heat is not enough to heat up cabin heater.

MY A/C WORKS PROPERLY HOEVER THE HEATING SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. AIR COMES OUT BUT IT'S COLD. WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING INTO?

a stuck or broken thermostate would do that if the moter temp takes a really long time to warm up the thermostate is stuck open and needs to be replaced if the moter warms up to fast or over heats the thermostate is stuck shut and needs to be repalced. the heater core its self could be plugged and may be fixed by back flushing with water if you do it your self flushit seperate from the moter to prevent what ever may have plugged it from re-entering it.

No heat in 1995 crown victoria, thermostate has been changed. the rad was flushed, Hoses top is warm to hot, lower is warm to cold , car is not overheating

feel the hoses that go into the heater core at the firewall,if both are hot, either a door under the dash is stuck shut or you need to flush your heater core by removing both hoses and flush with water hose

My 330d will only blow cold air the engine doesnt appear to be over heating but is lossing a bit of water?

It may be you heater matrix that may be faulty also check the thermostate by taking this out and put the tjerostate in hot water if it opens then it will be your heater matrix that is at fault.

No heat

You have a heater valve that controls hot air/cold air flowing thru your vents. Heater valve is most likely stuck and in need of replacement.

Heater in truck does not put out much heat

check the hoses going into the firewall for the heater and see if they are getting hot before you go too far. if one is hot and the other is cold then you may need to flush or replace the heater core.
