Hi Saul,

I've got an '86 Cherokee Laredo 2.6L and a '91 Wrangler too. It's got a 4.0L inline six cylinder. But it has a serpentine belt.

Comment me back and tell me which components will be attached to the belt in question. That way I can tell you which of them gets used to install the belt.

You will need a socket set and a pry bar for the procedure.
Let me know
Mike

How to install a serpentine belt on a 1991 jeep wrangler with a 2.5 engine without power steering

There should be a sticker in the engine compartment that shows the routing and you should be able to hold the tensioner back with a 3/8's ratchet with a long handle.

Cost for timing belt replacement, 1991 wrangler

The belt cost about $35 at Autozone, and it depends on the garage on cost, I would say no more then $50 to do this.

As a side note it takes about 10 min or less to change this belt with a simple hand tools, however replacing the belt tensioner is recommended if worn out, as this will eat your new belt.

Hope this helps.

My granny gear and rear wheels power but front wheels don't power at all in four wheel drive

I would first check the vacuum disconnect on the front axle (dana 30). The vacuum lines often become clogged and/or broken, especially when wheeling a 20 year old Jeep. My solution for my '93 YJ was the cable option which replaces the vacuum one (try Quadratec). This way I had a more positive feeling and no more vacuum issues to worry about.

Replaceing fan belt 1991 jeep renegade 4.0. no ac - how do yu add/remove tension?

at the front of the power steering pump you will see a nut over a slot loosen that up on the back side of the pump the is another bolt in a slot loosen that up and the one above it as well under the pump there is a bolt using a socket tighten this screw this will tighten the belt. Retighten all the other bolts wehn done do not over tighten the belt it will ruin the bearing and case early belt wear.

How do i replace serpentine belt on 1997 jeep wrangler

Adjustment is made by loosening the power steering pump. There is a transverse long bolt (jack bolt) right under the pump that is used for adjustment.

What do you loosen to remove serpentine belt from 1991 jeep wrangler with ac and power steering. thanks 4 cyl. 2.5

There is an idler pulley close to the power steering. Loosen the bolt that goes through the front of the idler pulley first. Then you will see the head of a bolt looking up at you. Turn the bolt clockwise to tighten and counterclockwise to loosen. The pulley is attached to the threaded bolt and it moves the pulley up or down as needed to adjust the belt tension. When the belt is replaced turn the bolt until the belt is tight. Remember to check the belt again after a few hundred miles. A new belt will stretch and loosen.

I have a 1990 jeep YJ replaced the alternator and now there is a loud screeching noise replaced the belt, replaced new bearing in idler pulley still makes a loud screeching noise?

If the belt is not tense enough it will squeal, so make sure it's tight enough. Otherwise you can use a stethoscope or long screwdriver up to your ear to isolate the source of the noise.
