My PT cruiser is a couple of years older, but I had the same problem. Drove fine, but start-up was erratic for several weeks. By the time AAA arrived, it usually was working fine. But when it suddenly started "struggling for power on the freeway and further along on the same trip, lurching (on a city avenue) I drove straight to my mechanic. mcdevito75 here, Yes a crankshaft sensor could cause your mentioned problems, the sensor should be located near the Harmonic balancer, you may need a special tool to remove it and if I'm not mistaken the new sensor thakes an adjustment, Have auto zone change this sensor for you, even if you succeed, how often will you change this sensor.
