My 2004 montero sport has started to squeal when starting it up cold, quiets down after driving a few blocks but squeals again when turning the steering wheel. What is most likely causing this noise?

A few more details please. Does the 'groan' change when you rev the vehicle? Does it happen just as you start and it then goes quiet? Does it groan for a few minutes then settle down? When was it last given a full service? A loose or worn Alternator belt can make squealing noises.
I know this website www.reliable-store.com that i get manuals from, and they have all models online that solve all simple/technical problems like professionals
I also brought for my 1989 BMW, such old model, they had it and it was very good manual. Go ahead, I bet.
Squealing is most common with loose or worn belts, I would start by replacing the drive belt on the front of the motor and go from there, Its easier to troubleshoot a squealing motor if you know that the belt or belts are good.
the squeal when you start is the drive belt, it is slipping on the alternate you have to remember that the starter is the largest load on the battery so when the engine starts the alternator goes into a full output mode so there is a lot of load on the alternator belt right after start up also this probably why you are having a low charge at idle the belt is slipping enough to allow the alternator to slip at low ingoing speeds, take a good look at the belt tensionor and the drive belt best guess is that you will need both a new belt and a new tensionor.......HAVE FUN
What engine?????? Take the belt off, the tensioner should have full travel and smooth, If its drags, its bad. Ck the pulleys, they shoul dspin easy without any noise, feel them as you turn them with your hand, if they feel rough, replace them. If the PS pulley isnt aligned, it will squeal.
