What is the F maintenance for 2005 E 320 Mercedes. Is there a way around it? Can I reset the reminder myself? It was D then jumped to F Thanks

  • Anonymous Oct 31, 2010

Already knew the data. Was quoted 400 for D, I am assuming 600 doe F. That was with all fluids etc.... Is there anyway to reset the system and just take it in for the D. Again what does F maintenance do?

The F actually signals the importance of the maintenance required and it's a critical one: change all filters and fluids (engine, brake, steering, transmission) , even the rear axle and especially the automatic transmission filter and fluid (don't believe the 100,000 mile service) or you better start saving $5,000 for a rebuilt tranny. Change all belts and save the old belts as a backup. Be sure to change the Cabin Charcoal (Carbon) air filter and the spark plugs too. Also all the suspension parts will be inspected thoroughly. Service F is a 6 hour service
To reset it turn on the ignition and get to the service warning. Hold the reset button for a few seconds and 'service menu' will pop up. In there just select the oil and confirm the reset.

In 2003 Mercedes Benz launched FSS Plus and service went from easily understandable to ultra confusing. Service F means your E class has a list of maintenance it needs done. What that specifically is, I cannot tell you without seeing the car. I would need to connect the car to a diagnostic system and "read" what service the vehicle is calling for. A good rule of thumb is however, for each increase in letter value, you can assume one hour of technician labor. In this case F=6 approx hours of work. This does not include parts, but is designed as a time estimate. (See Below)

Svc Time it takes

A about 1 hr
B about 2 hrs
C about 3 hrs
D about 4 hrs
E about 5 hrs
F about 6 hrs
G about 7 hrs
H about 8 hrs

I have not seen a car beyond Service H. I worked in a Mercedes Shop for over 6 years, and have been present for all E-class redesigns.

I recommend to have your car checked by Mercedes Mechanics. It is better that way than to reset the maintenance code.

What does the wrench code -376 d mean on a 2004 ml350

The maintenance service indicator notifies the driver when the next service is due. Approximately one month before the maintenance service is due, the type of maintenance is indicated in the speedometer display. If one large wrench is shown, a minor service (A) is due. Conversely, if two small wrenches are shown, a major service (B) is due. The value shown in the display may reflect the calculated distance (in miles) or time (in days) remaining. When the maintenance service term has been exceeded, this value is preceded by a "-" (minus symbol). I have a 2006 CLS 500...44,500 miles...due for service D...what does that involve???...Thank you...

Even Mercedes Service Departments cannot agree what is involved on a D service.
It is usually the 2 year periodic maintenance which includes transmission service, oil service and visual check of running components.

Most all Mercedes Dealers will write this up as a B service. It's up to you they don't over service the vehicle. Some MB dealers will sell you shocks and/or rear axle oil brake fluid flush, coolant flush and wiper replacement and who knows what else.

I suggest you find a GOOD independent Mercedes specialist and ask for a B service and report on any items needing attention.

Ask them to reset your Service FSS or oil interval reminder in the cluster, or do it yourself....it's in your Handbook around page #290. iirc.

Cost can be anywhere between $200.00 and $600.00.

How do you reset the service indicator sign on a 311 srinter van 2007 i have serviced the van but the warning lighy wikk not go out can anyone help wiyh the problem thankyou j callaghan

Instructions in hand book will not work.

Currently, the only way to reset ASSYST (the oil change reminder) is to use a dealership scan tool.

Cabin Compartment Node electronic control module reset required.

If you insist on DIY'ing your own maintenance, then you need to spend $2000 or so on a Mercedes Scanner. One compatable with StarSCAN, StarMOBILE, WiTECH or Mercedes-Benz Star Diagnosis System.

These are available on eBay but don't be surprised if it doesn't work !

..........or seek out a local tech' who can do the reset

How do you change oil in 2006 mb cls and reset service indicator

Practice now is to do a Top Side oil change. This means the engine oil is vacuumed out of the oil pan via the dip stick tube with an oil extractor..

Why ? Because this is quicker, doesn't need a hoist or pit and you don't have to remove the fiddly under covers to get to the drain plug..

Mercedes deliberately places the bottom of the dip stick to withing 1/16" th on an inch of the bottom of the oil pan.

Most if not all engines no have no dip stick, just a cover plug.
Oil level is checked with the cluster and scanner.

Setting is usually around 53mm on the scanner read out.

Oil filter is to the center right of the engine under a screw on plastic cover.

Mercedes special tool needed to unscrew it or generic tool available at auto parts stores.

Oil filter kit comes with large O ring for cover and oil filter element.

To reset FSS you turn to your handy owners hand book and read about the Oil Service Reminder Reset.

It explains how to use the steering wheel buttons and the 'R' button on the left of the cluster.
