I have a 2002 Bravada w/air suspension. When the compressor is loud it is bad. I bought a new one for less than $300 off the net but after 6 months it is not inflating the rear even though it runs briefly after start-up. It is most likely the compressor check valve. The Compressor Service Kit costs about $25 at the dealership. My rear air springs went bad (right side first) with cracked rubber and leaking. The right side was always lower when it would inflate and would leak until the whole rear was down. New air springs are about $85 w/o shipping @ GMPartsDirect.com. Also, the sensor can go bad but my buddy who works on Bravada/Envoy said this is usually NOT the problem. Compressors go bad after a few years and the air spring rubber deteriorates causing leakage. If the air springs leak, the compressor runs alot more and wears out faster. I'm not a certified mechanic, but have replaced the compressor myself and it took about 2 hours. As for the Compressor Service Kit instructions- you can search "Bravada Letting You Down?" on the net and a tech gives full instructions on how to service the compressor. He states that the compressor check valve sticks and it will not build pressure to inflate the rear of the vehicle.

Nice answer Berg!! Typically the air bags are what kills compressors. They are not designed for temperatures below 40 degrees or above 94 degrees and are prone to friction and dry rot on the inside fold of the air bag (a lot of times where soap and water can't reach) These hundreds of tiny cracks and pinholes over work your compressor. (Imagine your lungs are the compressor and your air bag is a holy balloon.. you'd eventually pass out!!) GO PASSIVE!!!! You were mentioning replacing your air bags with coil springs. I did 8 months ago and it was the best decision I made with my Bravada!!! I got mine from Strutmasters.com - my friend recommended them as he had the same thing done a couple of months before me. http://www.strutmasters.com/oldsmobile-bravada-suspension-s/87.htm They have a lifetime warranty and are designed to last the lifetime of your car.

When the Compresser gets loud it is the piston in the pump going bad. It does not put out enough pressure to pump the bags all the way up. it does also burn them out a lot faster if the bags are bad. I would like to know, if I can just pull out the air bags and just replace them with coil springs or if i have to get an adapter kit to fit the coils for the back. Anybody that would know let me know please.

This helps so much also wondering if a conversion to coils is done will the air pm need to be replaced in order for the air compressor in the trunk to work or since the shcoks will no longer be using the air pump will it work anyway . If that made any sense. and according to strutmaster.com the conversion kit there is no way to turn off the suspension warning light doe sanyone know of how to do this as well

How do I determine if my air suspension compressor is failing

Most likely it is a sensor for the height of the suspension. Located at the rear end. Any arm going from the differential case to the frame. The sensor is connected to it.

Hello Chrisite,

I'll assume you still have the air compressor which activates to automatically level your vehicle. When the air bags get old, they leak and need to be replaced. If you do not do it early, you will overwork the compressor and it will fail. Mine went out shortly after the air bags started leaking as it was coming on way too often. I got new air bags and a rebuilt compressor but the compressor failed within a few months. A new one was too expensive. I went to a website called Trailvoy.com and read about many that have had the same problems. One post explained how to cure this. So I chose not to mess with the compressor anymore and followed their instructions and made a bypass so I can fill the air bags myself from the air valve in the rear of the vehicle. I keep a portable compressor in the back just in case and it plugs into the 12v power port in the back. Pressure is best at 55 lbs. The air bags are rubber and eventually, due to weather conditions, they start to crack. If one is leaking, the second is soon to follow. When they can no longer hold air, the rear of the vehicle will sag way down and bounce when you drive it. It's not only annoying, it is unsafe.

Trailvoy is a forum for Trailblazer, Envoy & Bravada owners. Our model (2002 Bravada) is on the same platform as these others while Envoy offered a V8 engine also. (we have the 6 cylinder).

It costs nothing to join the site and you can get all sorts of helpful info regarding your vehicle. Many master mechanics belong to it so you'll get great advise if you ask questions.

I am having the same problem, My compressor stopped working a few weeks ago. There is a conversion kit available. I have found that Strutmasters.com offers the best advice The kit is about 350 (if you need to replace the shock absorbers) or 225 without the absorbers. The dealer compressor runs for $589.... I found one for 390.

2001 Navigator rear suspension sagging. While

It sounds like one of your air bags could have blown. I would check them first. I would also suggest checking into a replacement non air conversion kit from Strutmasters. I replaced the air system on my 2002 Navigator and saved a lot of time, money and headaches. The lines on my navigator had holes in them and I replaced the compressor twice before I realized it. Very costly. Avoid all the hassle and check out Strutmasters.

I shared the exact issue this past summer with my 02 Bravada. For about 26 dollars you can put a valve stem on both airlines and bypass the expensive dead compressor. This fixed the problem for about a month until one airbag began to leak faster than the other and the truck always seemed to sit unlevel. Today I purchased 2 used coil springs from a junkyard for 65 dollars and replaced the airbags in less than an hour without any special tools. The truck sits up well and level and I'm glad to be rid of all problems that go along with having air suspension. GM used the same coil springs on the Envoy, Trail Blazer and Buick Reiner.

Rear end is sagging aaallloootttt!

What has probably happened is you got a hole or cracks in your airbag. Dealerships and mechanics typically diagnoses it as the compressor but that is only to keep you coming back and wasting more money on something that will never truly be fixed. Both the airbag and the compressor are the problem. The compressor has to work extra hard because it is like blowing up a balloon with a hole in it. Therefor the airbag will kill the compressor. I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at the conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. This is a PERMANENT fix. I added the link below so you can check it out. http://www.strutmasters.com/oldsmobile-suspension-parts-s/85.htm I hope I was of some help Good Luck!!!
