My 1995 GMC with 5.7 surges or looses power momentarily then accelerates and tends to idle rough when this happens. The funny thing is it only happens at night or especially when it is raining. The service engine light comes on. Had it checked and shows O2 sensor. Put in two O2 sensors, new wires, 2 sets of new plugs, new cap and rotor, new EGR valve, new speed or throttle sensor, 2 new fuel filters. Alterator just went bad and thought it may have been a voltage problem. Had alterator rebuilt and still does it. I don't know what else to do, going broke with useless repair cost.
HAD SAME PROBLEM FOR TWO YEARS. FOUND PROBLEM BY ACCIDENT, BATTERY CABLE WAS IN THREE PARTS AND ALL CONNECTORS WERE LOOSE, BAD , ARCHING . CHECKIT IT THOROUGHLY ALL THE WAY DOWN THE LINE. REPLACED MINE WITH ONE PC. UNIT, NO PROBLEMS SINCE.!!HAD SAME PROBLEM FOR TWO YEARS. FOUND PROBLEM BY ACCIDENT, BATTERY CABLE WAS IN THREE PARTS AND ALL CONNECTORS WERE LOOSE, BAD , ARCHING . could be a bad idle control valve. causing idle surge and rise and stick open to allow a large vacuum leak in your manifold which would cause those Symptoms of rough acceleration and loss of power similar to a missfire.
Do you have a check engine light on? Is this a 4.3 with central port injection? If it's running real rich it might have a fuel leak inside the intake, either a fuel pressure regulator leaking or a feed line to the injector.
There is a chance that your ABS module is going out, or has gone out, although that doesn't explain the rough idle problem. I had the same thing happen on my '01 Tahoe, and it's a known problem with ABS units. Repair at dealer is over $1200.00. Repair yourself with a rebuilt module is $150.00+shipping and a little elbow grease. Get on EBay, search for ABS module repair, and there is a company in Russia, Iowa who will rebuild the one you have, and warrant it for 5 years (GM won't do that with their $1200 repair.).
The rough idle I bet is coincidental and not related.
Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.
