Pontiac grand am I had a diagnostic reading at autozone for diagnostic codes po128,po440 and p1189 don't know what they mean for a 2003 Pontiac grand am gt 3.4 liter and v6 engine vehical

PO128 -- engine coolant low or thermostat not working
P0440 - EVAP system malfunction, gas cap loose - Cat convertors missing from car can cause this
P1189 - Engine Oil Pressure Switch Circuit -- CAT CONVERTORS MISSING FROM CAR can cause this.

Pontiac Codes P0300 and P0133 when cold won't start unless you punch the gas

White smoke in the exhaust is a sign of water in the engine. What is the level of the radiator? You may need a new head gasket or heads.

Have a 2000 pontiac grand am 2.4 liter having trouble starting when cold or hot black smoke strong fuel smell and miss when startd but clears up and runs ok after that ?

sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator, this located on the fuel rail that the injectors are on it has a vacum hose going to it,a small one,if you remove this vacum hose and there is fuel on the hose side this is bad even just a small amount, there should be no liquid on the vacum hose side, becarefull when replacing, you must relieve all fuel pressure 1st

Car only start for a second

sounds like you a major vacumm leak which would cause this problem. you can take a can of brake cleaner and spray differant places over itake area and if the idle picks up and smooths out you should be able to find the leak.

Backfiring, rough idel

I would check the exhaust pipe a little closewr. White smoke can also mean a blown head gasket. Check the tail pipe to see if moisture is present. Also check coolant level. A blown head gasket can also cause related problems.
