My service engine light is on, took it was put on the machine and came back with the code po741 which was said to be a transmission problem. Took it to a transmission shop and was told that my transmission needed to be rebuilt. Can you help me with that problem because it passed inspection for this year.

Hook it up to a code reader, record the codes, check the work shop manual as to repair the recorded codes, do the repairs , cancel the codes, test drive to make sure the do not come back, if they do the fault in not fixed.

if you had the trans serviced what was the code from the check engine -----if they didnt give you code go get code most auto stores offer this service for free

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes. Reconnect after and the code will clear. However if the problem persists, the code will come back with in 20 miles or 30 minutes.

You did not mention the make model and year, so I will assume it is newer than 1996.
The light will stay on until the codes are erased with the scanner or code reader.

the light comes on because you have a troble code being set.Go to auto zone or other parts store that does a Free Read of you check engine light and find out the trouble code numbers,they will give you better idea of what is going on..Share this information with us so we can help you better...

Even though you replaced the sensor, and the light went out, the computer still retains the original codes until the codes are cleared using a scan tool. It's possible the computer has put the engine in a reduced power mode because the trouble codes haven't been cleared.

If it is like my Acura the problem was a screen that filters the fluid at the SOLENOID. They are on the outside of the transmission on my FWD and when cleaned we probably didn't need to replace the transmission. (I did anyway since I had gotten the trans.almost all of the way out of the car when I took off the solenoid to get a little more clearance). Follow all of the wiring looms to the solenoids. The torque converter lock-up solenoid pair was on the top nearest to the "bell housing" on my car.

Yes the solenoid is in the transmission although the trans pan is the only thing needed to be removed to get to this solenoid

If you like go ahead and let someone sell and replace your transmission but here is my suggestion! Check around and see if you can find a minor vacuum leak! This can simply be the big round hose that goes from the fuel injection to the power brake hub! This is normally a push in connector which has about a 1/2 inch hose clamped on it! If there is any kink or the connector is not in correctly a leak will occur and the transmission will shift rough as though you will be thrown out of the vehicle! Try unplugging this connector and plug it back in hard and straight and maybe you will be lucky and fix your problem. If the vacuum is correct your transmission will shift better than you have ever experienced!
