Change your imput and output speed sensors on the transmission. Not covered by the drivetrain warrenty. I had the same problem!
SOURCE: how do I change trans fluid on a 2008 escape hybrid
Only 2 ways that I know of....
Easiest: Suction the fluid via the dip stick tube using a drill pump (about 4 bucks at Harbor Freight or on line).
Less Easy: Remove all but one of the transmission pan bolts. With a large container under the pan, loosen the last bolt until you can pry the pan loose.... let the fluid run into the container. When it is empty, retighten that last bolt and then reinsert the removed bolts. The pan gasket should not leak when new fluid is poured into the dip stick tube (check it after about a quart is added... and snug the bolts either side of any leak).
Testimonial: "thank's much"

Yes sometimes diagnosis takes a while. They are most likely perfomring electrical tests o nthe rear axle coupler to see why its functioning incorrect. If I knoew the codes its storing I could help you

Tone ring. I have had this replaced on the rt and lt front because of the flashing 4x4 light. Leave it go and it gets worse. get it fixed now

I see this question is over a year old. We have a 2006 Escape Hybrid and the problem above is exactly what I would describe has been happening to our car. The only difference is that I have paid to have them tell me they cannot find a reason why the light is going off and the problem continues. I am going to try the rear door actuator:https://www.amazon.com/gp/huc/view.html?...
The dealership was completely unhelpful, but of course I was charged a goodly sum to be told they could find nothing wrong. If this doesn't fix it, then I will move on to try possibly looking at the relay sensors in the electrical system as there has been some weird behavior with the dimmer switch coming on and off as it is being driven with the headlights on. The arid climate we currently live does do a number to electronics. This has been a frustrating problems and I would appreciate any update you may have or advice from others.
