Check fuel pressure with pressure tester, test power coming from coil packs to make sure that all spark plugs are getting power. You can test relays and fuses with an ohmmeter.
GM does have an anti-theft device that is know to cause problems.
First put in key and leave on for exactly 10 minutes, then as soon as the anti-theft light turns off, the immediately start the car.

Bummer on teh engine damage, makes an instant worthless car. you can find interchangeability information from wrecking yards, call around to them. No one else actually tries this process.

Directly under the engine. You'll see a large smooth portion under there that looks like the underside of a bath tub and on the lowest portion of that is a bolt. Thats your oil reservoir where you drain your oil. The filter should be located near that pointing toward the front of the vehicle. GM OEM filters are usually black but could be white and are almost always 3" filters so a filter wrench that fits a 3" filter will get it off without problem.
