Ihave a 1998 Nissan Altima GXE...the alarm keeps going off for no reason...pulled fuses and battery cables but still having the same problem....now car won't turn over to crank! Everything is back the way it was before the alarm started malfunctioning! I have run out of idea!

If it aftermarket(bunch of wires and modules under the dash on the drivers side) remove it. If it is still factory it takes a scanner.

Relays are located in many places on vehicles. You would have to know what relay in particular you were looking for to find it's exact location. Fuses are easy to find, they are in the compartment right in front of your left knee on the lower section of the front of the dash, the drivers side of the dash between the door and the dash or sometimes under the hood. There is a door that pulls off to reveal the fuses, the door will have a diagram of the fuse locations. Here is a link from the internet with more information. holdboth the lock and unlosk buttons on your remote simultaneously for about five seconds until the lights flash and horn chirps.that should do it.if not i believe these models used a separate horn for security system.possibly fuse for this horn is bad or the horn itself is bad.to see if this horn works lower drivers window.stand outside vehicle and lock doors with remote.wait about a minute and reach in window and MANUALLY unlock and open door(do not use power door lock button)this should cause the system to activate...horn should beep and headlamps should flash.if horn beeps try my first suggestion.if it doesnt beep and just the head lamps flash check fuses and horn for security system.

There are two ways, you can disconnect the battery negative cable for 5 minutes or you can reset it with a system scanner.

Most likely a bad alternator, voltage regulator, battery, or a massive power drain in the system. Have the alternator and battery tested at a Auto Zone or Kragen. The voltage regulator is part of the alternator. An if you have a power drain your going to need to trace the source to correct it.

possibly the wires are loose or shot mayb try and replacing them

Could be the bearings in your alternator have gone dry and your alternator is about to quit out on you. I had a friend with an 01 altima and we could always hear him coming before we saw him because of this very problem. Changed the alternator out and noise went away. Thanks for using FixYa!
