The front caliper takes a 9mm hex drive socket, and you can order it from Snap-on tools online. Nobody else had this socket and its the only one that is made for that caliper.
I had the same problem ... seemed the assembly was too thick to fit back in. I ended up nipping off the end hook (with a grinder) of one of the pads so it could slide in. Once in, the pad can't come out anyway.
A 13 mm & a 15mm boxed end wrench is needed and a C Clamp. Jack up the front wheel and remove the tire and wheel. One of the wrenches will fit the two bolts that hold the caliper on the saddle. Before removing the caliper take a long and heavy screw driver and insert between the pad and caliper. try to pry the pad into the piston which you can not see but towards the engine side you will need to push the piston in. That way you can remove the caliper easily. Carefully set the caliper on a solid working area and do not stretch or bend the rubber hose too much. Had e the brake master cylinder cover off or loosened up well. Next take the C Clamp and use that to press the piston all the way flush with the caliper. You need to do this for with new pads the room is a nessisity. Have the rotors turned at any auto parts store locally. The re install new pads and reverse the proceedure to put back together. Your brake fluid should be near the full mark after your done. Take note when brake fluid is an inch low pads are very worn and need replacing. Check the rears every 35000 if towing excessively and 60000 if you do not tow a lot
It all depends on what type, some are bolts, some are torx type, and some are allen wrench type.
On the back pads you need a special tool to press in the piston, cause the back ones need to be turned in, not pressed in like the front. At any rate, the bolts are metric.
You shouldn't need to remove the calipers altogether just to replace the pads. You have remove the split pins or retaining springs on the old pads, then prize back the caliper pistons enough to remove them. Then push the pistons back some more enough to get the new pads in. Then reassemble and test.
