Question about 1997 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

1997 chevrolet 1500. Fuel pump is working with good pressure, it have spark and the fuel injectors are working. The problem is engine will crank but it won't start; but if you introduce starting fluid throw the intake the engine will start and it won't turn off until you close the ignition switch (in other words you can drive all day the problem is to start). I change fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor, air flow meter, fuel pressure regulator and all intake gaskets. PLEASE HELP

I don't know liter size of engine? I need fuel pressure spec?
If you have the spider fuel system, that system is noted for problems. Usually the start up fuel pressure is 60--66 psi, after it is running, it will run with less pressure.
There used to be service bulletin on the spider fuel system for sticking poppet valves on first start up of the morning. Then it would usually run fine the rest of the day. The fix was to clean the poppet valves. The cleaning procedure I saw was a shop procedure.
If it isn't a fuel issue, engine cranking, the vehicle systems get battery voltage, engine running the systems get alternator voltage, that can be several volt difference. Any applicable trouble codes?

There is None to my knowledge.. Ive done thousands of them.. Its way too hard to explain.. I did my first one by the seat of my pants.. only advice I can give is : Dont mix up the pushrods!! If ya do,, it'll warp valves bc the intake and exaust push rods are different lengths

THE FUEL PUMP IS BAD.

if your losing fuel pressure after the pump runs the drain back valve in the pump has failed.

and i doubt that you are seeing enough fuel pressure to run a vortec engine.

low fuel pressure equals a non running vortec

That normally means that you have a issue with your gas cap try replacing your gas cap first then diconnect the negative terminal of the battery for about three minutes to clear the memory and start the truck again

1997 pontiac sunfire crank no start condition. Have spark, no codes, have injector pulse, good fuel pressure. But it seems that the injectors are not letting fuel into the cylinder.

Did you check the actual voltage reading to fuel injectors? I wondered about a voltage drop? Your fuel pump relay supplies voltage to both fuel pump and fuel injectors.
In the diagram, the gray wire is voltage and the other color is ground controlled by computer. Did you check fuel injectors, individually?I'd want to use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Fuel--spark--compression--timing. There are other ways to get fuel in the engine besides fuel injectors, Just to see if engine will hit? There are safety issues, safety is your responsibility.

I have a 1997 Silverado with the 350. It started fine one day but about a mile down the road it died and will not start back. I can hear the fuel pump working and check for spark at the plug wires....

fuel regulator check that... there is also a bleed vale on the injector ram, check there is pressure there. be ready with a cloth as it maybe under pressure.if that is ok check the injector relay should be next to the fuel pump relay. best to keep a spare one just in case they go.

1999 chevy 1500 cranks but won't start. Have good spark.

Check the fuel pressure. If it has none the pump went bad but then you can have a pump that is pumping but at to low of a preesure to get thru the injectors. To verify a fuel issue pour just a bit of fuel into the intake and crank the vehicle. If it starts you need a new fuel pump.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 1500, 350 V8, automatic. The engine cranks, starts and then immediately dies. Fuel pressure is low (about 50 psi) and decreases slowly after engine stops. Have already...

check the fuel system
pump, regulator, fuel pressure damper , return valve
when the key is on the system needs to be pressurized and maintain pressure, if you dont have this , recheck your fuel system
if everything is ok, than cranck the engine and look for injector fault

1997 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 will not start. Getting spark checked all fuses, changed rotar - spark plug wires,

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Fuel pumps are a common failure item on those trucks. Pick up a cheap fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the shrader valve on the fuel rail. With the ignition on and you should have 55-65psi. Even if it's a few psi below spec it could stop the engine from firing.Once you determine the fuel pressure isn't adequate make sure you have a good power and ground at the fuel pump. If that checks out, time for a new fuel pump module. I recommend only replacing it with an AC delco unit, I've heard bad stories about aftermarket replacements.
You could also spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the throttle body and crank the engine over. If it runs for a few seconds after spraying starting fluid in you know you have a fuel delivery problem.

I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off, 60--66 psi with spider fuel system.
Engine cranking did you visually check for spark at the spark plugs? Engine cranking is there a fuel injector pulse?https://s8.postimg.org/50arofh11/fuel_pump.jpg
Click on the link for fuel pump relay, you can check the fuse. At the fuel pump, gray wire is voltage, black is ground.

Hard to start engine

Could be fuel pump, or dirty or fautlty injectors. The gas additives only clean partially, not sure of recommendations here, but most mechanics claim you need to pay them to hook up a high pressure cleaning system to do a thorough job on injectors.

Best bet would be to check fuel pressure with a pressure guage, I used to have on of those, not sure if it would work in today's fuel injected engines.

Good fuel pump, engine turns over but wont crank.

Check for spark. Pull a spark plug wire, put a screw driver about a quarter inch from it, and crank engine.
