We have a 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition and the same thing happens to us! We can drive it a few minutes and turn it off and it will be okay but if you drive it more than 15 min., turn it off and then come back a little later and try to turn it on it will not start and the radio will not either. The lights and everything else works. It takes 2-3 hours before it will start again. We have checked the fuses and relays but are not sure what we are looking for. Please help.

My truck was having the same problems with the battery draining and i replaced the battery, and the alternator. i was going to replace the starter and starter solenoid unit but there is a starter solenoid switch/relay on the firewall next to the battery that was grounding out, so i replaced it and i never had the problem again.

The starter relay is on a module conected to the radio relay....the starter must be cold when starting or it will not start in this problem on this vehicle....in other words you have a bad starter relay.:)

SOURCE: my gauges stay lit up

"{when I turned the headlights back on the gauges immediately went to zero reading}" =-------- First by pass the head light switch and check.May be its getting short and causing the dash to not function properly.------ Another possibility is weak alternator. The alternator controls the charging system of the car.If the alternator is weak then it will cause problem to the battery and due to this the head lights will get dim.-------- If all checked ok, then other possibility is bad ground connection to gauges or headlight switch.----------Recheck ground wires and its connection.May be its connection getting loose causing the problem.----dash gauges are controlled via a RED/BLACK wire ( same as the parking brake wire ) and is (+) trigger. You can find it at the fuse box or at the top left plug on the back of the instrument cluster.--------- This will help. Thanks helpmech.

Quest head lights won't turn off

The body computer controls the headlight relays based on input from the switches. There is a relay for high beam and one for low beam in a power distribution module in the engine compartment.
I don't know if the relays are available without buying the entire module. One of them could be stuck on.
You may need a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and procedures to test the circuits.
In the mean time you should be able to pull the 50amp fuse for the headlights.

1996 GMC JIMMY WILL NOT START: Turn the ignition and there is a repeated clicking sound. The interior lights, radio and power windows still function. Replaced the "in line" fuel filter under the...

It sounds like you probably have a shorted battery cell. This will not only cause the repeated clicking that you described, but it will also rob power when jump-starting from another vehicle. There is probably enough power when jump starting to turn the starter over, but after the starter take the power that it needs, there is not enough power to operate the computer system....so I have no doubt that you probably are not getting any fuel. The computer has to tell the fuel pump to run. If there is no power for the computer....I think you can figure it out from here.

Replace the battery and try it again.

2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.
