Hood Release broken or dislodged

Normally, the cable snaps off from behind the cabin release lever. In that case you can pull the cable end with Locking Grips. If it has broken at the hood end, and they have a history of it, there are videos in the link to get in through the grill.

While someone is pulling on the hood release, encourage it to open by hitting the hood in the area of the latch. Sometimes it may be necessary to use a bar to help pry it open. If that works then spray a lubricant on the hood release and adjust the spring tension that helps open the hood. If the release is broken then that is another problem. Part of the front grill may need to be removed to get to the latch.

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. If the plastic hood release handle inside is broken, can you reach the steel cable, if so, use a pair of vice grips to grab the cable and pull. Sometimes it helps to have a helper standing at the end of the hood and pop the hood with palm of hand, in the area of under hood release mechanism, at the same time your pulling the cable.

If cable is broken, some makes and models, you can remove front grille and get at under hood release mechanism.

There is usually a primary hood release, inside vehicle, and a secondary release under the hood, you have to slide your hand under the hood to release, sometimes you have to press down on the hood a little to move release. Trying to shut the hood with secondary release engaged can be difficult, you don't have the distance and the weight of hood to swing down.

You can try going up from the bottom behind the bumper cover, or thru the grille opening. You may be able to pull the hood latch with a hook such as a coat hanger or pry it with a crowbar.
You may have to have the bumper cover removed to gain access.

take off the left front wheel and fender well. slice off the hood cable insulation get a hook too pull the wire have a buddy pull up on the hood while doing this. Should pop open then hope this helps u out.

The cable is held in place by a metal bracket. If it cam off the bracket it won't work.

Look behind the part you pull and you will see the wire and the outer part of the cable. The end of the outer part of the cable has a groove neer the end. This groove slides onto a slot that is located just behind the pull latch. Once you see it it will make since on how it should go.

You can also grab the outer part of the cable and pull the inner wire. If you can pull the wire almost out, then it is broken. But the chances of that are very low.

You can pop out the intake plastic grid and access the hood lock mechanism from there

on the left side of the drivers side their is a panel with the hood release Pull off the cover of the hood release and you will see a cable connected to the hood release. take some pliers and give it a good pull.
if you dont hear a click, have someone pull the hood up while you pull on the hood release cable. next their will be little space to take off the grille for easier acces. take off the grille carefully by prying it off carefully on each side. push the grill up and pull it towards you going up then down.
Now all you have to do is stick a flathead screwdriver or philips. and on the bottom of the hood release on the hood stick the screwdriver under the release and push the screw driver down while pushing the hood up.

Someone just successfully helped me with a similar problem. IF the cable is Not broken, ie: still taunt when one pulls the hood release lever in the car, then the latch under the hood is simply stuck. Try this. Have someone bounce/press down on the front center of the hood where the latch is located to relieve spring tension. At the same time have someone pull the Hood Release lever inside the car. This may pop open the front hood. Then after the hood opens spray WD40 on the hood latch to rid the rust which likely is the cause of the problem. BTW...don't know what you mean about the Oil Light comes on. You don't need the engine turned on to open up the front hood, at least not on my model (2door sedan).
