Re: My 99 crysler town&country van 3.8l will start but...
Unless you have had recent engine work done, this symptom indicates a slipped timing belt/chain. To verify, you would need to remove the engine timing cover and check the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket. It is about a day's labor to replace the timing chain. Possible results are , increased fuel use, reduction in power and you may fail noise emissions (too much noise), some after market exhaust systems are designed to give improvements but these are general much more costly than standard fittings. I would not be happy myself and would want it put right, Not sure which country you are in so can't advise on trading standards, but in uk items must be fit for purpose or you get your money back.
When was last tune up? Plugs, wires, all fluids & filters especially fuel filter? I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it. Also avoid cheap fuel - lot of questionable fuel at cheap/cut rate stations.
Hello, I have seen a lot of these vans back fire because of bad plugs. The reason being two of the back spark plugs are very hard to get to and when a lot of shops did a tune up they don't replace them. So it probably needs them 2 plugs changed for sure.
Vheck for a dashboard groung wire. It should be aon the passenger end screwew to the dash frame and the body ofthe vehicle. AND! There is a ground strap from the engine to the body. It is on a bolt on the top of the engine in a spot the engine is nearest to the body. Make sure all grounds are cleN AND SECURE, GOOD LUCK,_NED_
