2003 santa fe with 130,000 miles, had timing belt replaced at 60,000 miles. Should it be replaced now at 130 k ?

The timing belts must be replaced every 5 years or 50k miles, whatever comes first. The other belts whenever they give signs of slipping, no fixed date.

Carfixer 1 is right. The Hyundai engine is called an interference engine, which means that when the timing belt breaks, it will allow the valves to hit the pistons and you will ruin your engine.

Do yourself a favor and replace the belt at recommended intervals. If you are past the 60k mark, have it done right away and save yourself a lot of grief and expense.

Each manufacturer has their own recommendation. Honda says 105,000 miles, Domestic say 60-80,000 . Depending on driving conditions, I would recommend 80,000 for anything. Replace the water pump if driven by the belt and the related components too.

Probably needs a crankshaft position sensor. If the belt is cracking a piece of the belt might have damaged the "eye" in the sensor or may be blocking the "eye" ( the timing belt runs right over top of the sensor at the crankshaft). Or it could be one of many other things: bad ecu, bad ignition coils, camshaft position sensor, etc, etc.

Also this motor is an interference motor. What that means is if the timing belt breaks. The valves in the head will be hit by the pistons. This will bend all valves that are open at that time.

HI Santa fes are good cars thay just are very touchy when they dont get there fluilds changed. Every 30,000 miles change the coolant and trans fluild. Also the timing belt has to be changed every 60,000 miles or around that. im not saying if you go a mile over bad things are going to happen just keep up on it and it will run forever. I have seeen tham will 200,000 miles on tham and still going strong.

You can drive it till it breaks of course, that will cost much more then replacing it as maintenance though. I would plan to have it changed much sooner then later as you are already past your recomended service time.
