Elecrtic seats on my BMW Z3 move when applying the brake both passenger and driver side. The electrics are working fine but it does not seem to lock them in place.

Its the dreaded seat rock syndrome, plenty of fixes on the forums, basically you have to replace spacers in set drive mechanism. I did with the help of a friend after ordring bushes and it was quite easy.

There are a couple of relay switches in the side of the top on the driver's side. One of these is not working. Your break lights are out because of this too. You have to apply the brake to lower or raise the top.

Bmw z3 passenger seat goes forward backwards but

It can also be theseat motor since there is seperate motors for up/down & forward/backwards. You can test the switch to see if you are getting power to the connector on the motor by using a multimeter.

If there is power to the motor, I would remove the motor and give it a tap on the ground. Alot of the time the motor is fine, and the tap will free it up again. If it doesn't work you may be up for a new seat motor. Giving mine a tap solved the issue with mine.

Cannot take off seats of BMW Z3

There are 4 bolts holding all car seats if you can get at least 2 off than you should be alright as long as you can squees a hacksaw or dremel to be able to cut along the seat rail that will remove the seat so you have access to the other 2.

Seat motor

I got the same problem whit the Passenger Seat. After perform a Diagnosis to the Electrical system and confirm every thing was right (fuses and voltage on the harness going to the seat) , I had decided to remove the Seat, then disassemble the side panel where the Activation switch is located and I have found the problem was the button was worn.
The easiest solution could be replace the switch , in my case I was able to repair the button by opening it putting some Tin solder on one of the internal traces and replacing one damaged micro spring.
I would recommend to replace the switch.
