The sulfer, or rotten egg smell is indicitive of a bad catalytic converter. It is by no means the air conditioning system, unless of course you have a skunk in the vent.

if you have a missfire the catalytic converter will glow red. if is blocked it will aso glow red. the smell is probably closer to gunpowder.co2 has no odor. try checking fuel pressure if low check the fuel pump
Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.
If nothing else helps: odors can sometimes be confusing. Might not be engine oil smell. 1) If it is coming during accelerations or uphills it might be automatic tranny fluid boiling. Check tranny fluid level or condition. 2) check for cracks on exhaust manifold and union/joint between manifold/cat converter and the rest of exhaust pipe. 3) check CV boots for cracks and grease leaks/sprays-especially if CAT converter is bellow CV joint/boot.
That is sulpur dioxide. That is what the exhaust would smell like if the catalytic converter isn't doing it's job. But what if you have a leak at the exhaust manifold where it meets the exhaust. At that point is a donut shaped gasket that often leaks. If it leaks into the engine compartment your air conditioning draws fresh air from the windshield wiper well not far from it. Let's assume your weatherstrip just before the wipers is not sealing against the hood properly.
First I would have to ask:
do you have any electrical accessories that are not working or only working intermiitently?
Do you have anything plugged in to your cigarette lighter socket? Things like phone chargers are known to cause things like this.
Do you have any aftermarket equipment like an alarm system, aftermarket stereo or remote start system added to your vehicle? Poor wiring during installation of these things have been known to cause all kinds of electrical problems.
What is ON and what is OFF when you smell this odor? Is the A/C on? are the wipers on? Are the headlamps on? Is the rear window defrost on? etc. There could be a loose connection in any of the hundreds of circuits and connectors in your car that is overheating. Paying attention to what is on and what is off can narrow the possibilities a lot.
Are you getting any warning lamps lighting up on your dash?
All of these things can be clues to where the odor may be originating from.
check for coolant leak. i had the same problem due to freeze plug leak. when the engine gets hot, i smell smoke odor. have your mechanic perform pressure check to see if there is leak.
The smell of hydrogen sulphide used to be a side effect of catalysed engines before low-sulphur oils and fuels replaced the old-fashioned stuff.
The sulphur smell could be significant and mean either you have some dodgy fuel or maybe the engine is has too much fuel going through it and if it is misfiring there will be unburned fuel entering the cat.
Most acceleration misfires are caused by ignition faults so I suggest you begin your fault-finding by ensuring the plugs are good and the spark each receives is a powerful quality spark.
