Hello hummingbi898: My name is Roger and I will help you. The location of the fuel pump is inside of the gas tank. The only way to gain access to the pump is to drop the fuel tank down. The easiest way to gain the clearance to drop the tank down is to raise the car high enough to get under the rear of the car.Place a jack under the tank remove the hangers and disconnect the fuel lines. Also unplug the wire harness. Clean the area of the fuel tank lock ring and remove the lock. This will allow the the access to the fuel pump. Be careful not to make any sparks as this would be detrimental to your health or who ever was close to you. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
That is called the fuel pump mounting and it is normal for a truck of that vintage to have stuff drop on it like mulch and not get cleaned and rust out the mounting and the lines.
Yes you have to drop the gas tank, either that or pull off the bed. Once you do that you remove the sending unit from the tank. You may as well replace the fuel pump while your in there whether you need to or not. This way you save yourself from dropping the tank again.
disconnect the battery, drop the gas tank, disconnect the hoses and wiring harness, get tank out in front of you, take out sending unit take off pump, replace is opposite of removal
