Unlock radio code

some cars have security in the radio and if it was turned on when you unhooked the battery the radio probably lost the code. unfortunately you will probably need to take it to a dealer to get the radio unlocked.

I'm hoping that you are in the states, because I have a free stateside number that you can call. Here are a full set of instructions to get you sorted out:

If it says "OFF" turn the key to ACC for 5 minutes with the radio on, and displaying "OFF". After 5 minutes the radio will turn itself off. Turn the key off then back on again. The radio should now display "CODE". If this doesn't work disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, and repeat the 5 minutes radio on displaying "OFF" with key in ACC until the radio turns itself off. Now that it says "CODE" go to step 2. The radio must display "CODE" to enter unlock code.

2 Find the radio serial number The radio's serial number is on the left side of the case that is inside the dashboard. You will have to remove the fascia that is around the radio carefully to reveal it. In most models you can use a small dental style mirror to see the code without completely removing the radio. If you can't see it this way you will have to take it all the way out. Don't disconnect anything just pull it out far enough to see the numbers. The model number starts with MNxxxxx, this is not the number you need. The serial will be an 8 digit number, no letters. It will be close to the model number however.

3 Now that you have your serial number call Mitsubishi Motors of North America at 1-888-648-7820, M-F 7am - 4pm Pacific time. They will give you your unlock code for free.

4 Now that you have your unlock code you have to enter it into your radio. They should take you through this on the phone, however, here's how:

The 1,2,3,4 preset buttons on your radio toggle up only through the digits 0-9. The 1 preset button is the first digit holder, and so on for the 4 digit code. If you go too far just keep pressing the button, and it will go back to 0, and you can get back to the right number. If your unlock code has a 0 in it you have to press the button once to get to 0. It starts with a dash (-). This doesn't count as the 0. For instance if your unlock code is 0873, you will press preset 1 once, preset 2 9x, preset 3 8x, and preset 4 4x. Once you have the correct number in the diplay press the "CD" button, and it will unlock your radio. If you didn't do it right, it will display "ERR1" before going back to the "CODE" display. Don't mess up more than twice. After the third failed try things get a lot more complicated!

1. Get something to write with and on (you'll need it to write down the serial number)
2. Put the ingnition key in and turn it until your able to turn your radio on (accessories position).
3. Then turn your radio OFF by it's knob/button (but leave the ingition key in place).
4. Hold down the preset buttons 1 and 6 at the same time.
5. Turn the radio on while pressing down both the 1 and 6buttons.(***IF your Honda doesn't have preset buttons on the radio thenhold down the top part of the 'Seek/Skip' button AND the top part ofthe 'Change Disk' button instead.*** )
6. Write down the 4 numbers you see first and then 4 more thatdisplay. These eight numbers are the SERIAL NUMBER. This is NOT yourCODE.
7. Make sure your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is handy toget the unlock code. (can be found on your insurance card, driver'sside door jam, small plate on dashboard by registration and inspectionstickers, etc)

* TO GET THE UNLOCK CODE (using the radio Serial Number and VIN)

1. Go to https://radio-navicode.honda.com/ (YES, it's run BY HONDA and IT'S FREE)
2. Follow on screen instructions (Serial Number and VIN required)
3. Type in the 5 digit code into your radio. This will unlock the radio and return it to a functional state.

---Telephone option:

1. Call American Honda Customer Relations (800) 999-1009
2. When the automated message starts 'Press 3' for 'Radio and Navigation Codes'.
3. Tell the Customer Service Agent you need your radio code. (Theywill ask for your name, your radio's serial number, VIN, etc)
4. When they give you your radio unlock code--WRITE IT DOWN and KEEP IT SAFE!
5. Type in the 5 digit code into your radio. This will unlock the radio and return it to a functional state.

* REMOVING ERROR E3

****If you entered too many wrong codes and got an ERROR E3 messagedisplaying you'll need to do an additional step for even the correctunlock code to work.****

Disconnect your negative battery terminal (or pull the radio fuse outif that's easier for you) for 30 seconds then reconnect it and then theradio will say "CODE" again and you can put in your correct unlock code.

Call the manufacturer for the security unlock code. You're going to need to have the registration in hand.

Give the dealership your VIN# and they will in turn provide you with an 'unlock' code. Input the code and you should have radio. If not, you will need to remove the radio and give the dealer the chassis # found on the case.

The only way without removing the radio and paying for code search is to go to your Merc dealership with the Log Book/Title proof ownership/identification they will be glad to give you the required code.
