In the morning, when i start the car, and turn the wheel to exit my parking space, i hear a noise which sounds like the power steering may have a problem. a high pitched whine... i also looked at my power steering fluid and it is frothy like a milkshake. do i need a power steering pump or could there be another problem. once i drive the car, the noise is not as loud as it is in the morning??? the car seems to be okay to steer, not hard to steer. what could it be???

If you hear a buzzing or zinging type of sound when you turn the wheels right or left, that means there is still some air in the pump or pump return lines. To stop the noise and protect the pump, block the rear wheels, place the transmission in park, and apply the parking brake. Jack up the front tires approximately two inches from the ground, making sure they are supported with something strong under the chassis so that it doesn't fall. Loosen the power steering cap just enough to where it will stay on, yet release any remaining air from the system, start the engine, very slowly rotate the front wheels to the right then to the left, this will release any air from the pump and the pump returning lines. When you don't hear any of the buzzing sounds, that means the air was released. Turn off he engine, remove the power steering cap, you will see the small air bubbles rising to the top. If you get any more buzzing sounds from the power steering system, repeat this process adding just enough fluid recommended. I know this sounds unusual, I have worked on Dodges for 43 years and my dad the main mechanic taught me this from his experience. This will also work on many other vehicles with power steering. you'll find most cars with steer assist tend to make some additional noise when the pump is being called on.... if the pump is faulty and eventually gives in, the worst that'll happen is being stubborn (heavy) to turn slow corners or while parking.

you may need to replace your steering fluid. dirty steering fluid can cause to make your steering wheel hard to turn.

Hi. the plastic trim around the base of the steering wheel and the steering column have an imperfection in one area that causes them to rub in a certain spot every time, are out of place slightly or are for some other reason making contact and creating a noise. Get right down there and turn the wheel and look for a rub. When you spot it use a sharp razor blade knife to trim it a wee bit. J.
or, you have an issue with the steering shaft somewhere.

sounds like the power sterring pump check valve is failing because it only when you turn, try to turn the wheels standing still to verify the noise, if noise present, replace the ps pump.

tazvtaz: If you only hear this noise when turning, I would start with the power steering assembly. 1.Check to verify if you have the proper level of power steering fluid first, if not add fluid as required. 2.Chekc for leaks around the power steering assembly, power steering hoses and replace or repair as required. 3.If the problem still exists, then your power steering motor may be on it's way out. You can verify if the noise is coming from the power steering assembly by having an assistant starting the car (in park)and turning the steering wheel, while you observe the operation of the power steering motor and determine if this is where the source of noise your are hearing is coming from. Have your power steering belt checked and adjusted, or replaced if worn.

Inner tie rods could make the same noise your describing. Do this......with your car in park and at idle, slightly turn you wheel from left to right, just a slight ****. 1/16 of a turn. Increase the pace from left to right, then slow down the pace. You should feel a bump in the steering wheel almost like something is tapping it. If so, have your inner and outer tie rods checked. Actually, have the steering gear checked also for leaks and wear.

sounds like your power steering pump, check to see if you blew a hose, check the fluid level,check the power steering pump belt tension or if it just broke, then check the pump out itself.
