How Do I change the clutch on a 1986 240 Volvo station wagon?

You do not need a simple "solution" from an online forum. What you need is detailed service information. I would recommend spending the small fee (under $30/year) and subscribing to the service information for your vehicle at alldatadiy.com. There. you will find step-by-step instructions along with diagrams and lists of any special tools needed to complete the task.

What is the fireing order and distributor wire location. On a 1986 240. Volvo dl

1432 clockwise
bring number one piston to top dead center and look at rotor- start number one wire in that spot-
if engine doesn't start and sounds funny
then you are 180% out---- bring up # one piston again and look at rotor this time it should point oppsite of where it was- redo plug wires- engine should start

I have a 1986 240 dl volvo, when i start the car the temp gauge goes right to overheat, after sitting all night, within 3 seconds? what could cause this

your coolant temp sensor wiring is touching ground. im assuming you have a few oil oil leaks. oil and heat on wiring insulation dont mix. find this wire and make sure it is not touching any brackets or the engine block. this doesnt sound like a hard issue. i think youll find something pretty easy.

1986 240 gl sedan

1000,000 miles is nothing for a Volvo 240. I sold one running well for $1400 with 235,000 miles ( and bought another used Volvo) The cars are built like bricks. To answer your question: The power windows might be fixed using some silicone spray. Easy ands cheap. The AC could just need a recharge. If not, the compressor is about $900. Sunroof, forget it. New tires - $450 all around for good ones. Paint? If its an issue, go to Maaco. If not, drive it, like I drove mine and forget about the paint. You will get 24-28 mpg on your used Volvo, and will probably keep it for four years. They run forever with little maintenance. Except for the tires and the a/c the other stuff seems minor.
