Engine As I am Driving for about 45 minutes my car cuts off. When I try to start it up again it will crank over but not start. If I wait a little while it will eventually start only to fail again.

no year car told , no engine told of 2, Mark1.
lots of causes, ,top 2 , bad spark and 2nd loss of fuel pump pressure

160hp 2.0 liter Nu engine and a 170hp 2.4 liter Theta engine
well it is 6 to 12 years old but no year told ,why?
cranks fast but does not start or stalls driving.
when cool it does start.
so was it overheating?

When problem is ongoing, if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs-- proper fuel pressure and fuel injector, where applicable. If engine is hot, wear gloves, that's what I do. If your missing everything, have to check pickup soil and ignition module in distributor. If you narrow it down to one system, then you can concentrate on that system, fuel--spark--whatever.
Sounds like your coolant level might be low. At highway speed you probably have enough coolant and with the air passing thru the radiator keeps the temp down, but at idle not so much. Or depending whether you have a belt drive or electric fan. Belt driven, could need a new belt.
I heave the same problem on my Corsa B 1.0 2000, engine cuts out, and whe it happens, I hear one of the relay under the right side of the dash buzzing. After a couple of minutes, starts like nothing happend. So far I manage to find that the speed sensor is faulty, when I tap him the car stops. I order a brand new one, but I'm not sure that was the issue. I order also a Opel Tech2 tester from ebay and it has to arrive next week, then I can see the error code.
Do a compression check. It sounds like the valve timing. If the engine has had recent maintenance like tune ups, oil changes etc. the symptoms you describe indicate serious problems.
possible fuel pump. Try spraying starting fluid into breather while someone is cranking engine. if vehicle tries to run it is fuel problem. If not it could be an electrical componet overheating and cooling and restarting. Coils, relays, ecm.
ideal situation would be to test for either NO SPARK or NO FUEL at the given moment of no start,Sounds like an electrical intermittant, related to the spark, but what ? Without any failure codes, you have BE THERE, to catch it happen and test. Hope this helps
sounds like clogged fuel filter or even clogged catalic converter. filter costs under 10 bucks, converter, i don't know, it's a bit more but there is a test a mechanic can do called a back pressure test.
