Leaking water but does not overheat - 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Depends on where the coolant is going.
If it is an external leak it could be a leaking water pump. If there are no external leaks and you are loosing coolant, it could be a blown head gasket. Especially if the engine has already overheated once.
A sticking thermostat would cause the engine to overheat and then loose coolant from the overflow tank. But not until it overheats.

Most likely you put the thesmostat in upsid down. Good luck

It could be the water pump , or something else , like a faulty thermostat. Where is the coolant leaking from ? If it is leaking from the water pump , then yes , your pump might be toast.
If the thermostat is no good , the engine will warm up to normal temp , and then overheat quite quickly. As it overheats and the coolant expands and boils , it could back up into the overflow reservoir and leak out onto the ground. You need to get someone to diagnose the problem ASAP , running your engine in an overheat condition could very quickly blow your head gasket and/or warp a cylinder head. If you can , please post a bit more info. Does it run but at a higher than normal temp. Does it only overheat when stopped in traffic etc.
Could be water pump , or thermostat , or plugged up radiator , or nonfunctioning cooling fans.

You have a leaking water pump, don't overheat this engine,add just water if u have no coolant, but don't overheat!

Check to see that the electric fan is coming on, there are two fans on this vehicle. The sender for the fan is right in front of the engine near the water housing, and is a common problem. Good Luck.

no the computers only job is too turn on the fans. check for enough antifreeze check for leaks. these cars are known for leaks. if the water pump is broke internally it will overheat with in minutes, or if the thermostat is stuck it will overheat too.

Leaks water under the dash or antifreeze. Sounds like it needs a heater core. If you replaced the thermostat it might still have air trapped in it.

Engine head is likely cracked. A pressure test will verify a slow leak.

Hello,i would replace the thermostat first.Check for water leaking around water pump,listen to hear if water pump bearing is shot and see if you can wiggle the water pump pully.if you can.bearing likely bad.,,hope this helps

Did you have your heater running when you refilled coolant after water pump changed?
