BMW 316i SE2001 plate power problem i have a problem with my bmw 3161 SE 2001 plate i was having a number of problems but the one thats left to sort out now is that the car has hardly any power what so ever and doesnt like going past 2000 revs after a little driving it starts to judder past 2000 up to arround the 4000 mark but then gets stuck arround there i have replaced so far water pump a few months back then 4 days ago replaced a oxygen breather and the breather hose and a crank sensor, then the next day had to replace the radiator and the thermostat due to the radiator blowing, the water system seams to be fine at the moment but the loss of power is still there anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

I would look into your fuel relay. This is a symptom of it going out. If I am reading this right. As you are driving your vehicle all of the sudden stops and you have to coast to a stop. It then takes some time to get it to start again but turning over fine. If this is the case then what I said should be it.
the rachet and lock on the handbrake handle itself is faulty and either needs 'loooking' at or replacing. leave the car in gear in addition to the handbrake to make sure ur car doesnt do a runner while u are waiting for repairs.
i've had similar issues with a 1999 M3. normally attributed to electrical power levels this could be a low voltage issue.
do you have error codes?
make sure the power contact at the starter motor (between the alternator and the battery) is tightened.
I have also had issues with a cranshaft position sensor. but my favourite culprit of electrical issues is a wet ECU.
the ecu compartment is under the windshield on the passenger side on E36
you gain acess to it under the hood....
this compartment gets wet, the ecu lays on a flat surface in that
compartment.
the bottom side of the circuit board gets wet and starts corrosion.
remove the ecu, take the bottom plate off, clean the bottom of the circuit
board with alcohol and a soft tooth brush.
you should be able to see the signs of corrosion or conductive build up.
this gunk bridges solder points doing all sort s of wierd things to your
car, including false sensor readings from asc/abs controllers and other
sensors....
all the way to engine failure and worst case burnt and shorted wiring
harness.
I'm on my 3rd ecu, took me and the repair boys a few years to figure this
one out.
BTW: i would get that ecu mounted above that flat surface, use some sort
of standoff to raise it so that it is not laying in the wet.

hi, the two clamps that secure the radiator have a small slot on the top, if you insert a small screwdriver into the slot and use it as a pry bar you should be able to unclip the holding clamp and it then releases like a hinge.
