These diagrams may be a little hard to see, but the cams have a mark that align with the raised "V" on the rear timing cover and the crankshaft pulley has a notch that aligns with the mark in the 12 O'clock position on the oil pump housing.
Gear on crank has a dot stamped on it, gear for cam also has a dot stamped on it. when all is put together, the two dots must align with each other at the closest point of rotation.
Below is an image showing the timing marks. I circled the detail for the hole in the cam sprocket, you will look through the hole to aline the mark for the cam.
You need to turn the engine over and bring it up to top dead center (TDC). Aline your put the chain or belt on. The crank gear will be on you just will need to aline the cam gear as I believe it is overhead cam. Do NOT force the cam gear to turn as you can bend your valves. When you are putting in the distributer as you slide it in it will rotate a bit. Make sure it is alined to where your rotor will be faceing to the #1 position on the cap. I hope you understand. If need be I can look up the timing marks for the cam for you just post a comment if you need. When I say to bring to TDC you turn the engine over to where the # 1 piston is to the top of the cylinder. Hope this helped and good luck.
i saw some marks on the motor but i not sure that they are the marks
that i need to synchronize with the pulleys. could you send me the
diagram? thanks.
EXHAUST CAM WILL HAVE A NOCH ALIN AT 3 OCLOCK THE INTAKE ALIN AT 9 OCLOCK BOTH MARK ON THE CAM SPORKET MARK MEET EACH ANOTHER, THE CRANKSHAFT GEAR WILL HAVE A NOCH THERE WILL BE A MARK AT ABOUT 12 OCLOCK ALIN CRANK GEAR TO THAT MARK.
