3 of the 4 door handles of ytm 2002 Hyundai accent are broken. We can't open them from the outside, only the inside. I need to know how much they will cost to fix and where to get them fixed. I live in Queanbeyan NSW (next to Canberra)
I have a 2005 hyundai both back doors would not open from the outside . after taking the panel off i found out that the handle is completely plastic and that it had broke in half because off stress . i removed the handle ( which was a pain ) and used quick drying epoxy on the crack . then i put a thin piece if aluminum on each side of the crack and used the same epoxy to hold it on . the next day i put the handles back on ( after letting the epoxy dry ) and it has worked perfect ever since. my next recourse , if it breaks again , is go to ebay . there is a seller if you type in hyundai door handles that sells 2 after market ones for $39.99. they fit 2001 to 2005 . i hope that this helps .
Any time you need a replacement part for any car just go to http://www.carparts.com/ the stuff is way cheaper then eBay or most wrecking yards.

I had this exact same problem with my 2002 Accent. First the passenger side door failed, and then a couple days ago the driver side door failed as well. It's a small plastic part that snaps and can't be put back together with super glue (I tried). Found a website today called thepartsbin.com that had replacement handles (though they appear to be chrome only, and not the black plastic like the original). They were about $28 each, and $9 ground shipping. Was the cheapest of 3 different autopart websites that I looked at.
Getting the inside door cover off is a bit of a pain, but I am familiar with it since I had to take them off to install new speakers. Getting the door handle out itself is a whole nother pain in the ****. It definitely would require special tools, and it took two people to get the passenger side one out before. If you are so inclined, it's possible to fix yourself, but I would recommend buying the parts and then try to see if you can find an honest mechanic who can put them in for you. Dealerships will probably take you to the cleaners for 200-300 dollars easy with parts and labor.
I had the same issue with my 04 hatchback.
for the outer door handle you will need to take the inner door panel off (after removeing the inside handle), and use a philips head srewdriver to remove the old handle. watch how hey come off and interact with the metal bar / lathing assembly. if the door has a lock there will be two bars (for rear passenger doors there is one bar).
then you have two options, replace with a new handle or super glue the old one back together. they are plastic and can be glued back together if you can find all the pieces.
A friend of my brought me his 2002 Hyundia 4 door with both rear doors locked closed by the child safety lock being engaged. To resolve this problem you will need a small pry bar with a flat head, flashlight and a scrib or long pick. You will mark the plastic up a little but you will get the door open. Place the pry bar between the door panel plastic and the interior door trim. apply pressure and you will see the white door tag fo the child lock. It is black and is a flip switch. Use the scrip or long pick to flip the switch and the door will open by the inside door handle.
Hyundaiparts4u.com This is the website I found with the cheapest replacement parts and they ship quickly. The hardest part about fixing the door handles was getting the panelling on the inside off, the window cranks are in the way. If the child lock is on then the inside handle will not work. I have one door with the child lock on and the outside handle broken, just have to live with one door that doesn't work. Texastiger7
I aksed my friends on www.simplesavings.com.au
They said to check at wreckers etc... and told me how to fix it.
I found a brand new outside handle on ebay for 7 or 8 dollars including shipping to West Virginia from Hong Cong. It looks like the exact same handle as the old one. I had no major problem getting the inside panel off. My problem was trying to get the left screw out, but eventually I got it out. Then, after getting out the old handle, I had to get the lock and the opening mechanism hooked up to the new handle and get the handle put back in the hole with everything hooked up. I couldn't. Then I accidentally closed the door and I can't get it back open again, even from the inside, as I did before! So if you know a decent mechanic who can do this for a reasonable price, let him do it! If you still want to try it yourself, here's a youtube video that helped me, although it is for a 1997: http://www.youtube.co/watch?v=IC2df_Bhvnw

My 2002 Accent's door handle just broke this morning. Is there any good diagrams as to how to open the door up and get at the insides? When I've taken apart car doors in the past I could never get them back together the same way.... Is this common in Hyundai Accent's?
mine is 2004 but the same problem
My 2002 Hyundai accent has 2 doors that open from the inside only and one that does not open at all.
I can't open my car doors from the outside. From the inside I can open up the car doors but from the outsides I can't do anything. I was able to pop off the driver side door panel and take a look inside. My next problem is finding out if the lock is connected to the handle of the door.
A few months ago the saem thing happened to my left rear door. It would not open from the outside. I had to open it from the inside. On top of that my grandson put on the child safety lock which has now totally disabled the door. This seems to be a common problem with these rear door handles and it does not seem to be an easy fix for someone like me who is totally challenged when it comes to cars.
