Try turning your key on and off 3 times before you start the car, if the engine starts more quickly it means your fuel delivery system is not holding pressure and when you stop your car the gas at the engine runs back to the tank. You might also see if the engine will start immediately if you turn it off then restart right away compared to starts in the morning.

I have a 1996 town car 4.6l that won't turn over, battery is new. Noticed that prior to the problem it would take several seconds of having key in start position before it would engage.

Sounds like a start switch on the steering column, worn ignition tumbler, if it takes a few tries holding the key in the start position

Sometime the engine will turn over fine but, not

Listen for 2 to 3 second prime on fuel pump when the key is turned to the on position. Make sure every thing is as quiet as possible when doing this. also it may take several tries to hear it so make sure you wait at least 10-15 seconds before each try . the fuel-pump should also run while cranking. Do this and re-post and we'll take ti from there!--thanks

Slow to start after sitting a few hours. Engine turns over fast but takes several seconds to start. once started, subsequent starts are good until you wait a few hours.

Check the fuel system pressure--if low, a weak fuel pump may take some amount of time to restore sufficient pressure to start. Does the exhaust emit black smoke for a short time when having starting trouble? This could point to leaking fuel injector(s). Don't know whether doing a computer scan would show anything, but maybe worthwhile. Go to Autozone or similar business for a free scan. Hope this helps!

Car is not starting. It turns over but takes 3 to 4 times to get it started

This can be several things. Try this turn the switch on for 10 seconds and do it twice. Then start the car.If it starts Change the fuel filter. 2nd Change the plugs and wires.

1993 ford ranger difficult to start

This double crank you say works in a couple of seconds? Try this; Turn the key on and wait a couple of seconds before cranking. It may be it takes a couple of seconds for the rail pressure to build up. The fuel pump shouldn't have to refill the fuel system but pressure recovery could be hindered by the fuel filter no passing fuelfreely enough.. Age of fuel filter?

Starting my 1998 pontiac grand am SE

Have you tryed turning on the ignition and waiting a few (15 to 20) seconds before starting?...If the fuel pressure is "bleeding off" when the car sits, it may take a couple of seconds for it to build back up to normal.

Car will not start

you might have a bad key.The security system uses the key chip to keep the fuel pump running.
