I recently replaced the spark plugs on my 2001 toyota tacoma and now the engine idles high. no vacuum leaks, and nothing else was adjusted. could it be the spark plug gap?

NO ENGINE TOLD AT ALL OR VIN OR COUNTRY.
3 ENGINES USED. 2.4, 2.7 AND 3.4v6

FIRST OFF LEARN THIS FACT
THE MACHINES AT NGK SET ALL PLUGS TO
0.045" NEVER TO 0.45 ( i CAN THROW A HAT THROUGH THAT CRAZY WIDE GAP)
SURE YOU MISSED A KEY ZERO.
SURE.
AND EACH MAKER PLUG USES THERE OWN DEFAULT STANDARD MACHINE GAP . (FACTORY)
NOBODY MAKES A SPARK PLUG FRONT 100,000 ENGINES. NOBODY. THEY ARE BY HEAT RANGE AND SIZE.
THAT MEANS SET THE GAP TO OEM TOY SPEC.
NGK CATALOG ONLINE EVEN TELLS THAT SPEC.

IDLES HIGH COLD OR HOT ENGINE OR BOTH
NOT TOLD AND IS A KEY FACT NOT TOLD.
THE SPEC IS
IN THE SM

Adjust the spark plug electrode gap. Electrode gap for new spark plug is 1.0 to 1.1 mm (0.039 to 0.043 in.).
BEST IS 1MM SET, AND THAT LOWER SETTING
ALLOWS THE GAP TO WIDEN IT IT AGES AND RUN LONGER AND BETTER.

NO PLUGS TOLD
THE OEM TYPE CALLED J PLUGS ARE SET PER ABOVE
BUT SOME ODD DUCK BOSCH SURFACE FIRE
ARE FACTORY SET (BOSCH) AT 0.063 AND NOT ADJUSTABLE AT ALL
SO AS YOU LEARNED SPARK IS COMPLEX./
FOR SURE RUNNING ANY KIND OF ODD PLUGS.
SOLD NOW.

Spark plug gap for 503 Rotex

Hi Faye,

I found this,

Rotax spark plug advisory for ultralight, experimental lightsport, amateur built aircraft.

Rotax 2 stroke aircraft engine spark plugsThe recommended spark plugs for the Rotax 277, Rotax 377, Rotax 447, Rotax 503, Rotax 532, Rotax 582 are the NGK B8ES series or the NGK BR8ES ( the R in the spark plug denotes it is a resistor plug and should be used in all of the CDI ignition engines.

BUT the Bosch points ignition engines should NOT use both a resistor plug and a resistor spark plug cap - use one or the other.

The least expensive option in the long run is the cap as you purchase it once while the resistor plugs cost more than the standard plug each time you buy them.

Use spark plugs that have a SOLID TIP - DO NOT USE spark plugs that have an aluminum screw on tip. They vibrate loose, the tip wears making a loose cap to plug fit, and can lead to the spark plug arcking across from the cap to the plug. Also the screw on style spark plugs are NOT designed for our applications, the gap is generally set up for .030 to .035 thou. The solid tip spark plugs are set up for a gap of .015 to .020 thou.

Spark plug gap

  • Allowable range: 0.4-0.5mm / .015 -.020"

  • Optimal: I usually set them to .015 and let them wear out to .019

  • This also helps getting the engine started in colder conditions

I had replaced spark plugs with NGK BKR6E-11. The fuel economy has gone down dramatically after this change. The plugs I was using earlier were NGK BKR6E-11 and then the mileage has now gone down. Now I am...

You are correct in saying the gap. Call a suzuki dealer, ask for service and as what the gap should be. Your problem is more than likely not having set the gap. Before you change that gap, if you can, measure what is now vs/what it should be. You will need a feeler gauge. Grainger sells the, so des NAPA.
