How many miles does it have on it?

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2014

2001 neon was running sluggishly, had spark plugs changed and it ran like new for about 1000 km. now problem is coming back, especially when I first take off. Have to take my foot off the gas and accelerate slower. In park it also isn't steady when I step on the gas and leave it in one place. What might be doing this? My mechanic said it was the wrong spark plugs before and put in new ones, like I said it ran good for about 1000km and then started again.

If the car has over 100,000 miles on it, you may need to replace the distributer. I don't think the bad gas caused this issue I think it may just be a coincdence. But if you already changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor, I would definetly check the distributor.

Check to make sure the firing order is correct. this can be easily mixed up when changing a distributer.

If you put bad gas and the trouble just started then, then its the bad gas that caused it. what kind of bad gas are you referring? dirty? diesel? low octane? You may have clogged the the strainers in the fuel pump(inside the tank) or the fuel filters. If its dirty gas, change immediately the fuel filter. you don't want dirty particles getting into your fuel injectors they are more expensive to replace. You may even have to evacuate and clean the bad gas you put in the gas tank.
If its bad octane but clean you may have a fouling plugs. still drain the tank off the bad gas. You won't get immediate result if just by adding good octane fuel.

I ran my car out of gas 1995 geo tracker . Ran fine for two days after . Replaced fuel filter . Fuel pump is working. Now it won't start . It try's but then dies ? Any suggestion would be appreciated

so ran fine for 2 days
id bet it didnt have only 1 gallon there.
or did you run it dry again.?
the pump is fuel lubricated and cooled
ran dry invites wrecking a good pump.

Depends on your model. Si and DX have 11.9 gallon tanks while CX and VX have 10 gallon tanks.

Car wont start after I ran out of gas

Take off the smaller wire off the starter motor. Put the key in the start position and hold it there for a few seconds. Listen for the fuel pump running. If you hear it running then it feels like it stopped, then let go of the key and reinstall that wire on the starter motor. It should start.

91 honda civic dx. The gas tanks holds about 12 gallons. I can only drive to half a tank (about 200 miles), then the car dies. (When I refuel I can only put in about 6 gallons). After about 150 miles after...

Fuel tank venting system is "stopped up" somewhere along the line (this is also called the Evaporative Emission Control System). Suggest taking it to a shop for a diagnosis.

Wont start after it died one night

The cap should be marked for number 1. The distributor turns clockwise. The firing order is 1-3-4-2.

2004 nissan titan...ran out of gas

Good chance that even on 4 gallons it may not start I would try for more, prime the fuel pump several times by turning the key on and leaving it on for around 5 seconds then shutting it off and repeating, obviously not trying to start. I've had cases where even small FWD cars won't start even on 4 gallons on a 12 gallon tank. The newer fuel pumps are a closed system that only allow a small portion of fuel into the pump housing to keep contamination down. Let me know if after adding a few more gallons it won't start we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using fixya.com
