It sounds like the sun shell inside the transmission that is faulty, and that is due to a manufacturing process..
Unfortunately, this problem requires a rebuild or replacement of the transmission. The same thing happened to me about a month ago with my 97 Blazer. It cost me $1200.00 for a local transmission shop to rebuild mine.
"
The "sun shell" connects the reverse input drum to the sun gear. The 2/4 band wraps around the reverse drum. When the reverse clutches are applied the sun shell spins the sun gear. When the 2/4 band is applied the sun shell holds the sun gear from spinning. This is why when it breaks you lose reverse, second and fourth"

2000 chevy silverado doesnt want to go into reverse but does go forward the transmison is good

I'm sorry to say this but I don't want to lead you on that it is a simple fix.

Your transmission has a major internal failure. You either have a clutch pack worn out or a stripped out sunshell.

This will be an internal transmission problem.
Transmission mountings or seals broken or leaking.
Rear band broken or worn.
Rear band apply pin or piston to short or binding in case.
Low fluid pressure.
Direct clutch components worn, jammed, cracked or leaking.

It will probably need an overhaul or replacement. Sorry.

My 97explore xlt seems to slip when starting of from a dead stop

Well a good place to start is to check the fluid ,Engine running in park.If the fluid is full then you may want to service the fluid and filter, dont use one of those fluid flushing machines they dont clean the filter reguardless of what the guys says(it is inpossible to reverse flush the filter. If this does not help there are two places that could be a problem.First and somewhat easy is the overdrive servo piston.Forward clutch oil pressure is used as the release oil and a hard rubber seal on the piston can cause this problem. If you want to atempt a repair i can walk you throught it .The other and most common problem is wear on the forward clutch sealing rings. They were changed in this year model from cast iron to brass and the brass tend to wear faster. They have since been updated to nylon. This will most likely mean a rebuild because it will require the transmission to be disassembled.

My 1997 chevy blazer automatic transmission wont go forward and reverse

See what code the transmission has set, and get that info posted. It's just barely possible that you can fix it yourself, but not likely. If the transmission has grenaded, it will have set a few error codes which will not necessarily be correct in the computer's assessment of the problem. If you know how to change the fluid and filter, do that when you check the codes. If there is metal in the transmission pan, the transmission will have to be rebuilt.
