There is a good chance that a service bulletin or a safety recall was issued for your E-class. There were several recalls sent out for re programming the sbc module which is the brakes for the vehicle. To find out if there are any open campaigns on your vehicle you can get in touch with the Mercedes Benz dealership in your area and ask them to run a VMI on your car. They will need the VIN on your car in order to run a VMI. This will let you know if there is any open campaign on your car or if they have already been performed.
