Make sure first you check your anti-freeze level. one simple procedure to do is to see if both radiator hoses are the same temp after the car is warm up. if not suspect faulty thermostat.

that happened to me the heater core went out ive read alot of different things about 03 galants most of them have the same problem it started with a grinding noise turning the temp contol, its actually the heater control motor value it causes the heater core to go out
your heater core is probably bad and just need to be repleced which can be kinda a pain depending on the car most are under the dash close to the fire wall
You don't say if the fan is working. If not, check the fuse. If the fuse is okay, check the switch and fan motor to be certain they are okay. If the fan is working, and still no heat (blows cold air), there is something blocking hot water from getting to the heater core. I hope this gives you some help to isolate where your problem is.
the clamp is definitely not tight... tighten it first and see if there is a change in heat also refill what you lost in antifreeze also see it the hose itself is not leaking if so replace both to be sure and possible flush the heater core while your at that point .
All those buttons normally are on the center concole. The heat/air knob turns to the red for heat, the more its turned in the red the hotter the heat blows. If your talking about the AC air, that should be on the knob that lets you chose the fan speed, just push it in to turn on the AC a light on the button may come on to let you know its been activated. the Rear Defrost is a single button, i think with 3 wavy lines top to bottom also in the center concole.
