SOURCE: Need Diagram of water pump on a 1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7,
the water pump is timing chain driven and to replace it requires serious disassembly of the engine. it is a 13 + hour job and is not for the casual mechanic

What engine? 2.7 passenger side on the bottom next to oil pan. 3.2 and 3.5 Drivers side coming off the side of block, near the front under the exhaust manifold.

SOURCE: Dodge Intrepid 1996 Water Pump Replacement Needs
a timing belt. the water pump uses it to turn it and you got to take it off to change the pump anyway so you might as well get a new one.also the hydralic timing belt tensioner should be replaced at the same time just to be sure.you will need anti freeze of course as well
SOURCE: 2000 dodge intrepid 3.2 l engine noise and oil light on
Hi, if the oil light comes on when you rev the engine at high revs and also comes on when the engine is warm then this means one of 2 things it either means your oil pump is up the shoot and needs repairing( this is a big job) or it means you have an oil leak and the oil pressure drops when the oil gets thinner due to being warm, so the first thing to do would be to have a good look around the engine for signs of oil leaks, its a good idea to get a big piece of cardboard and place this under your engine when you are parked up then check for signs of oil after it has been standing.
how ever you may not see oil on the floor due to you have a scratch guard under the car where the sump is so the oil my be falling on this and not the floor.
check the oil level if this is low the oil light will come on when warm or when engine is revved due to it being pumped round the engine, so check the level to see if its low.
if the level is ok and you find no leaks then one thing to do first would be to get the oil and oil filter changed and make sure you get the correct oil type for your car to ensure its the right type for your engine.
another problem you could have is a blocked breather from the cam cover to the sump this is an over flow for any oil and air that builds up in the engine you will find this towards the back of the cam cover and its pushed onto the cam cover and it goes down to just above the sump so you could remove this and check for blockage.
but if after changing the oil and filter the light still comes on then the chances are you oil pump is failing and is no longer keeping the oil pressure at normal running power, this will be bad for your car and can cause the engine to seize so if you need to drive the car only drive it when the lights off else you will need to get new engine, it dont take long for the engine to be starved from oil and then seize.
i hope i have given you a few things to check and be getting on with
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
