Under the dash, follow your brake arm up and you'll find a switch that this arm pushed against (brake light switch). Check to make sure your getting power to one side when the brake isn't applied, and power to both sides when you apply brake. Use a test light.
Hope this helps.

1995 Dodge Ram 1500. My brake light won't turn on, and my tail lights won't turn off!

Question edited for clarity and spelling, wrong type of break / brake.
Question moved to correct category.

The most likely cause would be a disconnected or badly connected connector under the dash from the lighting switch and lighting stalk. It is confusing the Body Control Module which monitors and operates all this stuff on a computer network.

You may need an auto electrician and a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose.

Brake light dodge neon 2002

Check the brake fuse in your dash's fusebox. Since the turns work, you know the bulbs are good, unless your Neon has separate brake lights. If the fuse is good, bulbs are good, then check for power at the brake light switch on the upper portion of the brake pedal. Should have 12 volts there all the time. Use a testlight or voltmeter to check. Good luck.

Brake lights on my 1999 dodge Durango won't come on. I have all ready change all the fuses, the brake switch and even all the light bulbs and they still won't come on

Hi, is there power getting to your brake switch? I have pasted the diagram below. If there is power to the brake switch, the problem is the wiring. If no power to the brake switch, it may be the fuse or the wire from the fuse to the switch.

Brake lights dont work, changed the fuse its was ok, changed the switch on the pedal , still not lights. flashers work, turn signal work, but not the brake lights. where to look next

Hi, your van does not use the signal filaments for the brake lights. You must have a wiring issue. Check for power at the brake light switch. If you have power there, the wire is broke from the switch to the S304 junction. If there is no power to the switch, the wire is broken between the fuse box and the switch. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Rear brake lights do not work. Checked fuse, new bulbs, and new bulb sockets.

Have you checked your brake lamp switch, located under the dash near the brake pedal? I've replace two on our Van.
