Should say on the dipstick but Mercon/dexron transmission fluid is what you need.

What type of transmisson oil do I use for a 1996 ford crown victoria and oil filter

The fluid you need is called mercon type ATF this is what ford recommends to use and should say it on the bottle. as for a filter for the transmission or engine I recommend motorcraft filters they meet ford specifications and are available at most auto parts stores.

'96 ford Crown Victoria....No hazard or brake light no turn sigal

Sounds like the multifunction switch. Try working the hazard switch up and down a few times to see if you get some lights to work. If so then replace the switch.

Just need info about changing transmission oil in 1996 Ford Crown Victoria LX. I'm not familiar with type of Transmission oil to use and how many quarts it holds and location of the drain plug.

You will need to drop the trans pan to drain. In turn you will need a trans filter kit which will include the filter and gasket. As far as fluid, it will require mercon dexron auto trans fluid, and will take about 6 quarts. What I normally do is fill with 5 qts and check, then add half qt at a time till full, which is normally 6 qts.
