Have a 2008 jeep grand cherokee laredo put key in ignition and dash board says damaged key and another service security key jeep wont start

or crank for 5 seconds.
this will prime it
some cars dont prime with key on trick. only cranked.

Did u try unlocking the passenger door with the key?these are very common for the drivers switch goin bad

Get a hammer and punch. Tap on punch next to key while turning key. This will free up frozen tumblers in ignition

You have gotten two problems. First your Vehicle Theft Security System (ignition inhibit feature) has been activated. To disarm it just enter the key and rotate either door or liftgate. If this does not work, locate under in the hinge of the driver door module a violet wire with a brown tracer, put a jumper between that line and ground. That single action should allow you to start the engine. Now, the second problem is dash lights. With the ignition off, you turn the headlamp switch to the right and the dash panel should light. If it doesn't you need to start looking a the basics, that is, fuses/breakers, voltage, ground, the switch itself.

sounds like computer not reading securty key try to disconnect + battery terminal for 2mins then retry

Was the battery disconnected at anytime? You may try locking the vehicle up, putting the key in the tailgate to reset the security system.

When you put the jumper cables on, put the key in the drivers door lock and unlock the door to deactivate the factory alarm.
