My 1998 Volvo S70 occasionally dies at stop lights or in heavy traffic. It will go weeks without a problem but then die repeatedly and I can barely keep it running long enough to get off the highway or street I'm on. Then it will be fine again for a little while. It seems to do better when I have a full tank of gas, though it doesn't always guarantee it won't have issues. I got the "Check Engine" light checked and got different answers from different mechanics: one said I need a new fuel pump, the other said its something with the turbo, and yet another said MAF (mass air flow). I want to get this fixed ASAP but don't want to shell out money for parts that don't need replacing... help!!

I hear that, about parts not necessary. Quite a discrepancy among those mechanics. All I could say is to find a mechanic who is familiar with Volvos.
My suggestion,. without knowing what codes were given, is that possibly your throttle body needs cleaning. This is where the air enters the engine, and carbon or fuel deposits tends to build up there. It can get black and dirty over time, and cause problems like rough idle or hesitation.
But anyway, find a smart and honest mechanic-not always easy, but they should be better than guessing after getting the codes.

SOURCE: My 1998 Volvo S70 occasionally

underneath the front of your car, there is a big plastic tube going into a radiator looking thing ( not the coolant radiator) this tubing is for ur turbo. ull notice similar tubing on the top. one plastic tube at a time go around and look for any cracks u might see but the big problem usually lies where the tubes connect via hose clamps and rubber sleeves. especially the tube going into the cooler under the front of the car. look carefully and get underneath there. takes any plastics off to see. im tellin u if one of those tubes lets outside air in it will cause issues, its called unmetered air that doesnt cross the path of the maf sensor. look around very well ive seen many of these with the same systems. grab the tubes and move them around.

My 1998 Volvo S70 keeps dying while driving. I wait a bit and it starts up again.if I accelerate to go with the flow of traffic it dies unable to get on freeway for fear of it dying help me please

Try make a OBD readout. Perhaps there are a troublecode stored in the system.
The relay to operate the gasolie pump in the tank can be defective so the solder is getting hot and loses contact.

1998 volvo s70 runs rough after tune up

Could be, but you will need to check for trouble codes, since the engine light came on. The code or codes may help you troubleshoot it.

Dilemma, Battery died in my 1998 s70 volvo, charged the battery, then disconnected the neg. cable while car was running and engine died. Is this a bad alternator?

Scan it from the OBDII System to find out for sure or remove the Alternator and have it tested at your local Auto Parts Store.

My 1998 volvo s70 go died when idle at stop i

I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it was bad fuel so I replaced the fuel filter to no avail. Then I cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor which also didn't work. Is your check engine light on?

1998 Volvo S70 stalls intermittently

Have tried getting quality gasoline at a reliable station? It sounds like water in your fuel system. Add a couple bottles of Iso-Heet fuel system dryer everytime you fill up the next few times, and that should cure it.

1999 Volvo S70 Stalls at stop signs and traffic lights

These models had a problem with the electronic control modules, and this is what controls the idle speed. Sometimes they just need to be cleaned, but sometimes they are defective. Volvo has extended the warranty on some of them to 10 years or 200,000 miles if it is found to be defective.
