I had my 2001 chevy tracker to the repair shop for a service engine soon light. He put it on his code reader but there are no codes and he can't turn the light off. He then took the tracker to another repair shop of one of his friends and his machine had no codes and can't shut the light off. Can you help?

You will need a code reader to clear the service engine soon light. If you have not repaired the problem the light will come back on.

Scan test and retrieve faultcode

you need to get a code reader or find somebody that has one. plug it in, and it will tell you why the light is on and whet you need to fix. it is usually the oxygen sensor, or the knock sensor. I have a code reader if you live anywhere near Albany Oregon... lol good luck

Sounds like a fuel pressure problem. If the light was on it still has the code stored in the ecm. A good shop can check the code and fuel pressure.

the check engine light alerts you that there are problems. There will be a code or codes stored in the engines computer. You can retrieve these codes one of three ways.

1. call your local auto parts store. Many times they will do this for free.

2. buy an inexpensive code reader. Available just about anywhere that has an automotive department. They will start at about $50.

3. Bring it in to a shop to have a check engine light diagnostic done.

Once you know the code you can then start to focus on a repair. Once a repair is made the codes will be cleared and the check engine light will turn off. If you do not make the repairs the light will not stay off. It will continue to come on and stay on until the proper repair is made.

Generally is yes, "check engine" are refer to the emission codes, but not always. I suggest visit some autozone ot autoshop with scan tools or "reader code" to know exactly what fault code is stored there. With this code number we could send you additional details.

It has to be done with a code reader,the codes have to be erased,but it will come back on if the problem is still there,auto zone can do this for you for free.

Had the same problem with my tracker. Replaced the camshaft position sensor(easy to do yourself, takes about five mins.) Now can drive at highway speeds for about a half hour and stop at the gas station and she'll start back up and run fine. Before i had to wait at least 15-20mins before she would start. Also, if your service engine soon light is on take it to the national chain auto parts stores and they will hook up the code reader for free. The sensor runs about $120.

Most major auto part chain stores have a loaner code scanner (they require you to leave your ID while you use the tool in their parking lot). There is a connector under the dash near on the drivers side that accepts the reader....check the codes and Google them for repair info or post them back here.

The power light, seperate from the check engine light, is usually a transmission code. Have the vehicle scanned with a code reader so you can isolate the issue.
